Hello,

How easy is it to close a Spanish bank account is it a matter of just giving written notice?

Where do I find the details of The IBAN of my direct debits to suppliers if I want to change my account?

Thinking of changing to a WISE account, is it easy?

Any help advice would be appreciated.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Hi Squiggly

This has been discussed quite a few times on these pages, you can do a search at the top of the page.

The latest thread was within the past couple of days, have a read through it, I am sure that there will be some useful bits of info in it.

Trying to open a Wise bank accountb

Hi Squiggly

The only IBAN you need for your Spanish utilities is the one issued by Wise. Once you've registered with Wise, open a euro account, then view account details - which will display your IBAN, which will begin with BE (denoting Belgium - but that is not a problem)

Then go to the websites of your utility suppliers (if you haven't already registered then do so using your NIE), and find your details. Simply change the IBAN to your new one. If you don't want to use the websites you'll have to either phone or visit).

Some utility websites won't accept the Belgian IBAN (Hidraqua is the most obvious one) - in this case you'll have to contact them via whatever means and ask them to change it for you.

There's no need to pay somebody else to do this, it's your choice.

Closing your existing account will probably be the hard bit!

Cheers

Steve
