Mrmike, you need to tell us who they are so we know who to avoid.

It's no wonder the Dealers are usually called Stealers.  Name and shame, that's the name of the game.

Check who fits the bill (F&F) on Av Cortes Valencianes Not sure about the spelling there! I really don't know the name but a Brit mechanic in the polygon knew about their reputation too.

Hi all. Im thinking of buying a car in Spain. The prices for used cars here, seem very high on the local traders websites, for cars that are quite old and with high mileages. So, that got me thinking about a new car. Ive been using Carwow to get prices for various new cars and that got me thinkin...

...g about nearly new cars from main dealers. However, it seems like every main dealer website I go on, there is no information whatsoever, on nearly new cars. Do dealerships here actually sell nearly new cars and if so, how do they market them, because I can't find any! Is there the equivalent of Autotrader over here, for example? Thanks for any help on this.

Hi Paul2109

I have just bought an S-Max off Nico at Guadamar Cars, nice good his cars are keenly priced plus after sales service seems very good.

Hi Aspen1992, thanks for that. Somebody else recommended them, so I've been checking their website regularly. Their cars do appear to be better condition and value. Must admit though, that the financial gap between a new car (with warranty, roadside assistance, etc) and one up to a few years old, is relatively small in many cases.

Hi Paul2109

My friend said the same but when I was looking I didn't find that to be honest, plus I didn't want to be spending 15-20k the one I bought was 10k which was more than I set out to spend similar from ford new was over 20k, I went to hyundhai an i20 was nearly 19k, basic fiesta was 14k.

I have recovery with my car insurance and I have arranged with Nico at the garage to maintain the car and ITV's so I am happy with the deal, nice guy speaks excellent English wish my Spanish was a tenth as good and the car drives nice loads of space for when my daughter and children come across or the lads to play golf.

Hi again. Maybe it's because I need an automatic, as my missus only has an auto licence. They seem to command a high premium in Spain. Not like for like cars, but heres an example. Currently for sale Opel convertible automatic, 2014 with 70k on the clock is 15900euro. Brand new, top of the range Dacia Sandero Stepway automatic, with all the options is just over 16800euro. Modern car, modern tech, warranty, assistance etc, for @1000euro more. Admittedly, this is one of the more extreme examples, but there tends to be around 3-4k difference between a like for like car a few years old and a brand new one.

Like we are saying cars in general are alot more expensive but on the flip side they hold value better, mine is a 2015 with 103k on 1 owner full history just been serviced with new timing belt and pump @ 10k its very good condition and the amount of miles we will do it will last us a good few years.

I did fancy an auto if I am honest but I am not a lover of the ford or vauxhall auto box I was wanting this model to keep costs down on service.

Hopefully you will get sorted he has a few nice motors in now...😉

I bought a S/H car from a dealer in Alicante, After a 2000Kms I got some strange noises. I took it back, the repair took about 10 days waiting mainly for a S/H part and I was without a car. It was the alternator pulley. Some months later I found that the A/C compressor had packed up among other things. This was not noticed during the winter months when I had bought it. After lots of pestering on emails and calls without replies etc I was told by him on the phone when I finally got him (using another phone btw) ( and in Spanish) that the guarantee was not valid given the high mileage, 213000kms. I spoke to a lawyer he said that it would probably cost me more to take him to court than if I got it repaired and he may have kept the car for months on any pretext. On the dealers site there are glowing reports and his English is supposed to be excellent. The car was supposedly "Serviced" before being handed over. I will post the pics of the filters and Oil that I changed a few months after buying this car from him tomorrow, as I kept them just in case.

Caveat Emptor they say! Too hot for suede jackets here!

The more i hear, the more i think just get a new car.  Good experience,  bad experience with used cars. Everyone ive spoken to who has bought new car has had no issues.
