Just back home a couple of days ago from La Zenia, last time out there was only a couple of months ago. Things I noticed, the drains stink all the way from Paddy’s point area and along Calle maestro Torralba, the bins are overflowing, and broken glass on the street and pavements, rubbish left beside the bins such as broken furniture etc, where the scrap man comes along in his white van and makes things worse by smashing it up, taking a small amount of metal and leaving everything else scattered around. So much rubbish left on the pavements and the grassy areas, plastic bottles, tin cans, plastic bags and so on. No cleaning up done by the council or what ever it’s called in Spain. Not to mention the electric scooters dumped on the pavements and the dog muck. It has never been perfect, far from it, not even good, never mind perfect, but it’s definitely deteriorating, why ?. And what can be done about it. I’m sure it’s not just La Zenia, but it’s going down hill. I suppose it’s what you are used to, or what you are prepared to accept as normal.

Hello

I will add my area , La Mata   to the 'all good here ' list. Just back  in from  cat feeding & taking my rubbish to 2 x  empty basuras & saw a small van with  man  changing the plastic bag in the bin by the bus stop

Cheers

To cut a long story short Orihuela Costa has been turned into a deprived area by the clowns in the Townhall, Orihuela Costa provides more than 50% of the suma tax but gets about 10% spent here you are not the only person who is asking this question. Orihuela Costa 7 years ago when we moved here was a well maintained area now it's a sh*t hole. Apartment blocks are being built on what little is left of the coast without any infrastructure in place to cope with the extra demand on the roads and health service. Check out the Partido Independencia Orihuela Costa FB page you will see videos and pictures of the state of OC.

Sadly your right, I am amazed that full time residents in this area put up with the abysmal standard of service provided by the council. This a multicultural area with many Scandinavians, Belgians, Germans, British, etc but not that many Spanish, I wonder if that makes a difference?

I had not heard of the party you mention but having read their agenda I hope they succeed.

Same in Cabo Roig. Bins left overflowing with rubbish and as much again beside them. Even when bins are emptied the rubbish and litter that is on the ground is left. Really disgraceful as we all pay our taxes every year. Next thing we will encounter is rats!
please highlight this to whoever has the power and influence to ensure that our towns are kept clean and tidy.

Totally agree, but some of the issues I mentioned are not one hundred percent down to the council, the drainage which can stink is due to lack of maintenance and upgrading, so is the lack of street cleaners, local authorities problem.  But the dumping of rubbish beside bins, and in general anywhere (away from your own area) is considered as fly tipping in the UK and does have costly penalties if caught, that is why it is generally very rare to find it. In Spain this is not dealt with, and considered as normal practice. In my area in Spain most of the broken glass, cardboard boxes etc are from the various bars and food outlets who who fill the bins to overflowing within 12 hours, and the council then leave everything scattered around, they just empty the bins. And that is not just the councils fault, it’s also the owners of the establishments fault, but councils do have the facility to deal with the problem if they could be bothered. A lot is down to a particular mindset, which has become accepted as the norm, it’s not tourists dumping old and broken furniture, garden waste, old bathroom utilities and letting their dogs crap on the pavements.

Where we live in Lomas de Cabo Roig people come into the area and dump their rubbish I stead of going to the tip or bump their rubbish in their own area. Fridge freezers ,sofas you name it it gets dumped next to the bins. It's crazy it makes a nice area into a tip  their is no need for this.
