Obtaining a Padron

You can get a padron from your local  townhall but we were told you need residency in spain to get it if you are buying a house ask the estate agent or the solicitor  to  sort it out for you as we have found out you go round and round in circles good luck and hope your move goeswell  

You do not need to have Residencia to register on the Padron. It is the most simple thing to do - at least that is my experience!

Once you have your Escritura (title deeds) take it, along with your passport, NIE certificate and a utility bill (or demand/acknowledgment of account status if you havn't had your first bill)) - along to the Town Hall. They will ask you to fill in a very simple form, even possible for non Spanish speakers. I believe my Town Hall charged me ONE euro for this.

(be aware they will want to photocopy all the pages of your escritura)

Hi Steve.    I am about to apply for Padron in Orihuela Town Hall.  I have my NIE, passports, rental contract.  However, I have heard that they may want to see my landlords title deeds and he lives in UK so might not want to provide these.  Also I won't be having utility bills as I pay these direct to the landlord.  Do you think it will be enough with NIE, rental contract, passports etc.  Patrick O'Neill

Hi Patrick. It just might go through actually . Given that it's basically free it must be worth a visit. If I recall they didn't even look at my utility bill. At least if you go down there and present what you've got if they do refuse it at least you'll know what else they want.
