Thanks very much to everyone for the kind comments, and it's nice to know there are other people who also like good wood or craft work. The problem is getting nice wood like oak, as the only good supplier is up at Ontinyent.

Craig, I honestly don't know how many hours went into the basket, but quite a few. It's certainly not something I could complete in a day. Getting close enough to the cutting point to make sure I stay on the pattern lines becomes a strain on the eyes and back after a while, so I tend to do a bit and have a break. Incidentally, the blades are so thin that they fit in a 1 mm hole. I'm often working with my fingers only a few mm from the blade. Those of you who DIY will know the mantra 'measure twice, cut once'. That's modified for scrollsawing - it's 'measure twice, cut once, count fingers'.

I could do to sell some of them, as all surfaces are covering with Margaret's and my produce. The time taken, plus the capital cost of the scrollsaw itself, means I could never make a living from it, but I have made a few pieces to order in exchange for a bottle of whisky or a menu del diá. All I can say is make me an offer!

Grannyrose, if you'd heard the cursing that went on whilst I was doing the wool bowl, you wouldn't have been impressed. I'm glad I made something useful rather than purely decorative, but I wouldn't tackle another one.

I'll post a few more, but please tell me if you get fed up seeing them.

Would anyone like to see some of Margaret's work?

These are a sample of some simple cutouts made from Corian - the stuff they use for kitchen worktops etc. I like Corian, as it's satisfying to cut. I'd like to get my hands on some more, but delivery charges are prohibitive. The figures are about 5 cm high.

Margaret's grand-daughter has a pony, and M asked if I'd make a nameplate for the stable door, so this is what I came up with.

This one, as you can see, is a 3D cut, and is about 10 cm high. I only tackle 3D cutting when I fancy a challenge.

And this one is just a cat. All the pattern pieces were cut at an angle, so the cut pieces would slide forward but not push all the way out. To make them more prominent, I painted them with black acrylic.

I don't think I need to describe what this one is!

Please show us some of Margaret’s work. You two appear to be very talented people. Here I am thinking I am just about able to cope on my own. Alastair was in Hispital this week for surgery and I have had to maintain the house on my own ! I have kept the garden and pavia immaculate , attended to the bins, make my own breakfast and endless more chores. Thank goodness he is home now and in need of some tender care. I have been spoilt for far too long. It is time for a change and I am happy to do everything I used to do before he retired.  Role reversal but please do not make me do the financial side !  That would be a step too far.  Isn’t life wonderful?

Thanks for that. I don't know about talented, but we both like craft work.

M's laptop is off at the moment, so I can't get at her gallery, but the picture is one I have of a project she did a few months ago. She saw something similar in a shop window, went to our chino and bought a cheapo brolly, and stripped off the cover. Like myself, there was a lot of cursing and muttering involved, but a ball of crochet thread later, she produced one better than she saw in the shop window.
