If your son was a legal resident in Spain then transferred his residency to the UK, he should be able to get a TOR no from Uk customs(see UK customs website) which would enable him to get the goods back without iva as he has transferred his primary residence. This can be applied for by the courie...

...r company.

Yes he was resident. We are being told 480 for the transport and 300 for customs clearance. We have told them he has moved back and he was Soanish resident. So would the tax be on top of this normally?

Not viable as already said. The tv was £3500 when purchased. The speakers £500. It would probably be more viable to pay to send it back with what he would lose, and have to pay to replace.

As said earlier you can claim relief of all customs charges and vat if your son applies for a TOR number.(transfer of residence). The courier company normally obtain one on your behalf. I don't understand the £300 customs clearance fee. Try more Couriers. He only has 12 months from transferring residency to do it. John's link gives all info you need.
