Can anyone confirm if there is a specific law or rule against driving in flip-flops.

Common sense would suggest you don't drive in flip flops and I'm sure if you were wearing said footwear, and had a car accident while driving, then it may be considered a contributory factor.

But law???

The debate as to whether it is or isn’t illegal to wear flip-flops while driving in Spain has been going for as long as flip-flops and cars have been in existence.

https://www.healthplanspain.com/blog/spain-news/547-guardia-civil-to-use-own-discretion-to-fine-flip-flop-drivers.html

Article 18.1. This is perhaps the most important point needed to clarify all of these issues. It states that “The driver of a vehicle is responsible for maintaining their personal freedom of movement, the required field of vision and to pay proper attention whilst driving, in order to ensure their own safety, the safety of other vehicle occupants and of other road users.

Article 17.1. Related to the previous article, it is stated that “Drivers shall at all times be in a position of full control of and have responsibility for their vehicles “.

Thanks for the replies Steve, Cheryl and Villas.

So in a nutshell, No, there isn't a law against it but if you are caught driving with flip flops you can be caught out by the ubiquitous 'Ways and Means' Act. Briefly described as 'there are always ways and means of prosecuting you anyway'

Cheers

Hi. Not so much as 'Ways and Means' Act. more fitting in with “Drivers shall at all times be in a position of full control of and have responsibility for their vehicles “ be the driver wearing high-heels, Darth Vader suit or whatever. However, I can´t imagine Darth Vader wearing high-heels or me either.

High heels? Me neither, apart from the first Saturday of the month after 8pm.

We are remember talking here about cheap and nasty throw away plastic flip-flops and IMO anyone who even contemplates driving in those deserves the maximum sanction allowed in law!

I don't think the police would be too impressed with Gucci sliders either!

I have a very expensive pair of (name withheld so as not to advertise) flip flops which I have every intention of wearing for years. They operate in much the same way as cheap, plastic flip flops, only far more comfortably. Would mine be assessed differently?
