The covid has not suddenly disappeared so it's up to each individual whether to carry on wearing a mask. There are many people in Benidorm who are still wearing a mask at all times including myself.

Wearing masks should be a voluntary action, what should be mandatory is washing ,disinfecting hands when exiting shops, buses, buildings and bars, sadly lacking at the moment amongst all nationalities.Covid ,if it still has to be referred to ,has changed and is mild, for most people,at its worst it was serious for about 2% of the population ,yes people died with or as a result of Covid, people also died of old age ,car accidents and we accept this as part of the way of life, for those involved it was dreadful but not unusual, we are all mortal.
The challenge for all is to relinquish the wearing of masks and the feeling that without it ," you will die" and that wearing it you are on a higher moral plain.I will continue to wear one on a bus during the coughing and sneezing seasons .Yes I have had the latest "Covid/Omnicron" ,no big deal,a slight cold of about a week's duration. It is time to move on and ditch the fear of venturing out into the sunlight.
Infection rates are actually meaningless and good on the UK for discontinuing it's daily morbid recital on the media, infected with a mild virus not so long ago would have not stopped anyone working,3 years of endless fear mongering has produced a feeling amongst many that "feeling unwell" ,the new " bad back",must be Covid, is an excuse to not to work and to expect sympathy from colleagues.
We are all individuals and are responsible for our own health, being old does not mean being frail ,in the vast majority of cases lifestyles chosen and indulged in affect your health,it is never to late to change, wearing a mask is not a " get out of gaol free" card.
