I occasionally buy a one way ticket to my holiday home so does that mean I wouldn't be allowed entry?  I usually stay around 10 days but like the freedom to stay a few days longer or come home earlier.  Also how can you prove that you have the funds to cover your stay if you, like me us...

...e a Revolut card and only carry a small amount of cash?

Hi Scots Lass,

No, it doesn't.  In your case, I would carry a copy of my house deeds and a credit card statement, showing my credit card limit and available balance.

Out of interest, at my Spanish class on Thursday, I asked my fellow students if any of their recent visitors had experienced any issues with these so-called "new rules".  Every one of 15 students had received at least 2 visitors in the last 3 weeks (in the case of one of my friends, she's had 7 visitors in that timeframe) and not a single visitor was stopped, let alone asked for any of this additional information.  That's not to say that border control couldn't ask for it, but as I previously pointed out the wording on the Gov.UK website, they may ask for it.

Kind regards,

Kim

I agree with most of the posts here;  I think that there is quite a lot of scare-mongering in progress especially from anti-EU press.  Obviously, almost all countries reserve the right to ask such questions in the case of travellers who have no previous connection or roots there. It is a matter of basic security.   Equally, we feel disproportionately aggrieved because many of us were members/citizens of the EU for forty seven years and never expected our privileged status to be wrested from us.  I feel angry and disconsolate every day as I previously felt that I 'belonged' in Spain by virtue of that citizenship. That is another issue, of course. I do not think, though, that Spain is minded to punish us with unreasonable requirements for entry so I doubt very much that many people will be inconvenienced, especially those who are frequent travellers. I have passed through Alicante airport eight times in the last ten months so my passport clearly shows that I have a tendency to leave as well as to arrive.  I will probably carry a few basic documents, being a hyper cautious person, but I do not expect to need to show them.  Also, I doubt that there will be random checks,  which are essentially useless, rather there will be some form of profiling in operation based primarily on country of origin, record of previous visits and even appearance.

I agree with much of this - we´ve seen an upswing of scaremongering by the UK press, which does not seem to reflect much in the way of actual facts.

I´ve had 2 trips (4 flights) in the last month or so back and forth to the UK and not seen a single person asked for any other paperwork, other than the UK passport.  I´ve not met anyone who was questioned about money or anything else.

The UK economy is not in the greatest place and it's pretty clear the government looking to keep people at home for ´staycations´ and keep as much money back home. Caravan holidays are up 71% this year.

UK tourism from the EU is down, as no doubt the UK is deemed expensive compared to many EU countries and some now view as unwelcoming, courtesy of the ´we´re better than everyone else attitude´- whilst others want to join the EU, the UK seemingly felt they could do better on their own trade deal wise (failed on all counts)  - this has had a negative effect on how the UK is presently viewed by many Europeans. I have German, Dutch, Irish and other European neighbors, and all genuinely wanted to understand why the UK could make such an own goal, as to them seems just stupid. I´ve even often had to say ´Not all people from the UK agreed to this!´.

All of this brings me back to the original point - the UK government looking to keep as much money in the UK as possible, which includes tourism, so expect the same sort of malicious bile from the likes of the Daily Mail and suchlike, who were the ones that lied to the people in the first place about Brexit.

It actually angers me the way much is being reported - as if Spain is punishing UK citizens, which is untrue - the UK changed the rules when they chose to step out of the EU (and are now 3rd country status) and now many people are feeling the pain, when they realise they have lost many of their rights, including freedom of movement to live and easily work within the EU - nevermind being able to post anything back and forth to the UK, which now you can add duty, extra postage costs and customs which is still so badly organised a parcel can sit 6+ weeks to deliver, to previously 1-2 weeks (standard post).

Please don´t be angry with Spain or any other EU country, when it is your own (UK) country, that caused all of this - but negated to tell you of the potential fallout and affect for people and the economy.

Hi Ced,

If their second vax dose was more than 270 days before their date of entry into Spain, they won't be deemed fully vaccinated, so they will need to complete the Spanish health form - full details, including a link to complete the form, can be found here:

Kind regards,

Kim
