Hi Louise,

We moved here permanently in Feb this year. We were both with EE in the UK and were each told individually by EE that we could only keep our contracts for 3 months if we were not returning to the UK even though we still have bank accounts in the UK. I'm not sure what would have happened afte...

...r the 3 months as we both took out SIM only contracts within the first 3 months of our arrival in Spain and contacted EE to cancel our contracts with them. Regards, Russ

I’ve been coming to spain for a very long time,and Vodafone have never mentioned a time limit for using my phone abroad.

Hi

We're moving to Spain from the UK in a month or so.  My mobile phone contract is up for renewal and I'm wondering what if I should upgrade my phone and contract here or wait until I get to Spain.  The trouble is I've called a few companies here in the UK and they've all stated that afte...

...r a few months in Spain my SIM card will stop working unless I return to UK on a regular basis.  I've not heard of anyone else having this problem or has that been the case for some people? They basically said it may not get cut off at all but there is a chance that it would. I did tell them I would still have a UK address and UK bank but it made no difference. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks

Makes no difference I've had a UK SIM for the last 2 years, and it's cheaper than having an ES SIM call UK @ UK rates and callSpanish numbers exactly the same.

It is normal that after 6 months, in any 12 months, out here in Spain, with consecutive months or not, the conection to your network will stop. I am in the same boat and I have been told that if I want to keep my UK number I will have to transfer it to a UK pay as you go SIM. Regards Peter

I've been living here permanently since May 2016 and EE are still my provider for my UK mobile number. I told them I was relocating and they said no problem as long as you keep your DD payments under the terms of the contract. I do own the phone, whether that makes any difference I don't know.

Hi  I have a Sim only deal with the three network I pay £15 a month by direct debit out of my UK bank and I take that phone anywhere I like and I live in Spain permanently I have a Spanish phone and I have my Sim only three phone it’s as simple as that you don’t need to tell anybody anything you just take up a contract with your home address in the UK and your bank account with a direct debit

@Peter49

When I posted earlier in the thread I should have mentioned that I don't have a UK address and EE were happy to continue my account on my UK phone, presumably because the payments are coming from a UK bank account

That's amazing. Sarcasm apart, it's the bit about the billing address that's important. All I was saying is that EE were happy to continue my UK contract while living in Spain permanently and without a UK address. It's not related to the SIM at least not in my case, because I was honest with EE when I told them my circumstances.
