We have just got our residencia and our driving licence exchange has been processed with DGT and we are just waiting for our new Spanish licence.  We are in the U.K. but flying back to move into our new home in October and need to buy a car - hiring is getting very expensive!  We would be delighted to hear from anyone who has done this self help rather than through a gestor and their experience of what they did, had to do and who they arranged their insurances, tax etc.  It would be useful to have recommendations of garages that were reliable and trustworthy to buy from as we will most likely buy from a garage and willing to travel any distance for the right car.  It will not be a new car but a couple of years old something like a Lexus NX or RX.

We know a lot of advice is to use a gestor for ease but we were advised to do that with our residence application, driving licence, padron etc and found that we were then in the hands of the gestor in how quickly they did things and they didn’t seem to appreciate our urgency (Brexit deadline!) and we ended up doing the paperwork they should have been doing and making appointments ourselves with our Cl@ve account and got things done.   It was not difficult just took a bit of time to make sure we understood what was required and had the right documentation.

Any advice or experiences if you have bought a car without a gestor gratefully received.

Many thanks

If you buy a car from a reputable dealer they should be able to do the transfer for you there and then although you will have to show them proof of insurance.

Your TIE will prove your ID and address.

We bought last year from the Car Outlet in Ondara, saw the car online & after asking a few questions paid a deposit and they drove the car down to us in Algorfa & put in a full tank of diesel, then after a test drive we paid the balance. I would definitely buy from them again in the future.

Thank you so much Mags01369.  Really appreciate it.  Just looked at their website and sadly no Lexus in stock at the moment.  Do you know if the prices are generally fixed or is there room for some negotiation?  Also domthe6 show prices including iva(tax) or is this something to add to the prices shown?  Thanks again.  Much appreciated you taking the time to help.

Many thanks Darro. Much appreciated.  Are there any insurance comparison sites like we have In the U.K. or is it by recommendation?  Also is it possible to arrange a short term insurance to pick up the car.  Finally do all policies allow you to drive back to the U.K. if you wanted to?

Thank you again for taking the time to help.

Hi , the price you see is what you pay . You could possibly phone them & ask if they can source a Lexus for you ?
