Pilar is a good place to live, we live in Torre which is beach side from Pilar.

Been here 20 years.

Previous comments are informing you well.

It's a really nice area, great medical facilities  24/7.

Lots of nationalities, my calle has Spanish, German, French & English, everyone gets along.

It's a good place.

All the best in your search.

Thanks,

The more we hear the better it sounds, we will definatley be paying the area a visit next time around.

Thanks Pete,

That's interesting and something that we hadn't thought of but will need to consider.

Torre has not flooded in the 20 years I've been living here.

The big flood in September last year caused an ingress of mud into Pilar.

At the request of a forum member, I checked out the mud etc a couple of days after the rain stopped. Yes there was mud, but it soon dried out and was cleaned up. The damage was negligible compared to (say) Los Alcazares.

Pilar has a barranco which takes most of the flood water. Since the September flood, the retention pond at the head of the barranco has been improved.

The motorway dividing Torre from Pilar is in a cutting. The cutting acted as a barrier to further mud movement. The motorway was out of action for 2-3 weeks, but Torre was protected.

Thank you for this info, it's good to hear that improvements have already been made to try and help protect the area when it happens again.

Hi again, I really do advise you to come and look around Torre de la Horadada, I can assure you that you will not be disapointed. It really is the best place by far for having all the neccersary facilities one needs. Plus you are not too far from the main town of Pilar for the major supermarkets. If I can be of any future help please don't hessitate to ask.

Regards Len.

We currently have a an apartment in Villamartin. This was our first step into the property market in Spain and we wanted to make a relatively small commitment as our first step. It's been largely positive, but after 4 years, we are already thinking of our next move for something bigger and more permanent and have been spending more and more time in the Torre/Pillar de La Horadada areas. We've looked all around, from Torrevieja to Los Alcazares, both coast and a little inland, and really have TDLH/PDLH as our favourites.

What I have noticed about these areas, along with having shops and restaurants open all year round and a good mix of nationalities, is that the local council really look after the area. Much more than they do in the Villamartin area, by far. I ventured to both after the floods and was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the area, I expected much much worse.

Some really useful info already posted, which helps us as well, but pretty sure we've already decided that TDLH will be our next move.

Best Wishes

G
