Kettles

Depends upon what you like.   I have had, and use every day, a plastic one for around 8 years and it is still working well.   I don’t get any problem with the water as I have a filter system with a small extra tap on the kitchen sink.

We have had three kettles in two years! Even the plastic ones have a metal-covered element and this seems to rapidly develop an unsightly (unhealthy?) brown, rust-like staining, when using water straight from the tap.

Although we don’t seem to have suffered any ill effects from tap water, we switched initially to bottled water and then bought a Brita filter (the tank type that sits on the worktop and has a tap). Our latest kettle has now had 6 months of daily use and remains like new inside.

Short answer, any decent quality kettle is fine, but use bottled or filtered water if you want to keep it looking nice!

I have had several kettles over the years and have now gone back to this glass kettle.  You can clean / wipe the inside regularly when you see the scale building up

Using a plastic kettle to boil water exposes the user to some amount of BPA chemicals. If this was to be done on a daily basis, which is always the case especially if your electrical kettle is made of plastic results into massive exposure to BPA chemical which is linked to many health issues. When consumed in huge amount, BPA can lead to the following: sudden behavioral change, menstruation issues, and growth problems.  Some studies suggest that BPA disrupts thyroid, may affect the hormone levels in the blood, and affect the reproductive organ.  Research shows that BPA affects fertility, enzyme activity, and brain chemistry and is thought to be toxic. When an individual heats water in an electrical kettle made of plastic, it releases BPA which leaches into the hot water and can severely affect your system.

Go for stainless steel! I tad more expensive but well worth it!
