Hi, I`ve a flat in Playa Flamenca and thinking of retiring there soon, although not officially retired for 4 years,  but not sure how it goes regarding medical cover/doctors/hospital treatment /prescriptions. I know it may change after Brexit but can anyone advice how it works at present. Many thanks in advance.

When you live here on a permanent basis and applying for Residencia you will require Private Health Insurance for the first year paid in full. I can recommend that you speak to Alfonso at Gran Alacant Insurances, he is English speaking, very helpful and professional and will be able to talk you through all the requirements and what is and isn't covered by the Insurance. We used his servicesand were delighted with the help he provided.Check their advert on the Forum or use the link below.

William, Yes you are correct regarding the need for Private Health care.

Best advice would be to Google for providers close to your area, of which there are many, call in to see them, get details and prices, go home ,take a good luck and compare for all  just as you would when deciding on your car Insurance or House Insurance etc, then make an informed decision .

If you DIY, rather than avoiding that pain by using Alfonso, make sure the PHI provider will give you written confirmation that the policy complies with residency requirements.

After one year of residence, then you can buy into the Valencian health system if you wish.

Hi

If you are a pensioner you would get free healthcare providing you have an S1 from DWP in UK. You must get Residency also, Paxton, NIE.

If your not a pensioner you will need private insurance. To apply for Residency you need EX18 form completed, use a broker to do this they do it all for you. It’s about 70 euros but worth it as an appointment is needed with police local then for Residency.

Hope this helps
