My husband need warfarin going twice a month.Last week we waited outside in queue to book in for 26min although he had appointment then had to wait for 24min for check. At 16.00 told to return for paper work after again queueing for 1.25min.At one time had to wait till 09.00(1hour).There must be a better and quicker way.If I didn't drive this would cost us 40£.

Hello

Where did you do all this queueing? I can tell you the correct procedure as I   have taken Sintrom for many years ( that is Warfarin spanish equivolent) I can give you the correct procedure but wont bore you in case you know -- but.... sometimes .there are delays and some of those waiting  times are normal depending how many people are there on the day.

Atm in La Mata,  there are approx 6 = 10people  but in the summer monthis it could  be 26 - 30 people. per visit!

Let me know if you need more info.

Cheers

Hi Tina

I also take blood thinners, but I was prescribed a drug called Apixaban, which is far simpler than warfarin. I simply take two a day without the need for regular trips to the health centre. I don't know why they gave me Apixaban, but I'm not complaining!

Perhaps your husband could ask his doctor about this, it can't do any harm to ask.

I did, out of curiosity, try to ask my doctor about this once. I didn't get an answer, but he did offer to switch me to warfarin, which I quickly turned down!

I've just remembered that it was a cardiologist who originally prescribed Apixaban. Perhaps GPs are not allowed to, because it's quite expensive.

Cheers

Hi Steve, I too took warfarin for many years doing the necessary blood tests until after our first 3 month stay in 2018 when my doctor rang me to ask if I would change to one of the newer blood thinners no longer requiring blood tests. I changed to Rivaroxaban, 1 tablet a day brilliant. I come to Spain with 3 months of medication from my UK Gp. In 2020, due to ferry cancellations and covid restrictions we well overstayed our 3 months so didn't go to medical centre (never been) went to Farmacia and bought fresh supplies. I was astonished how cheap some medicines were but the Rivaroxaban a 28 day supply was €74, Wow!, I don't advocate what I did next, but I purchased warfarin instead at old last date prescribed amount, cost for 1 month was €9 so yes the newer anticoagulants are extremely expensive but so glad I no longer have to go for INR tests.

Regards

Pauline
