Hi, has anyone successfully used a DBS Certificate for a (NLV) Visa?

Thank you

Susan & Peter

I tried but it was rejected. It appears it was acceptable up to March 2021, from that point, only an ACRO is acceptable. This can be ordered online.  The ACRO requires photoID. I uploaded a photo I had saved on my iPad.  It’s a simple process, similar price to DBS.

Thank you for info Eileen & Shaunagh.
We were told on 23/06 by the people doing our Visa that DBS was OK but last Thurs they said it had been changed, I cant find anything about change, hence the question. On Spanish Consulate site, 17/06/21 it says ACRO only accepted. All very frustrating as we had our DBS. If anyone can point me to where it says it changed it would be appreciated.

Very fortunately we applied last Thurs for ACRO, paid for go faster service, and they arrived today!
Just now got to get these through the Apostille, still waiting for from 13/06/21 for DBS, Marriage Cert and Medical coming back!

Really wearing process, now find theres a backlog for interviews at Embassy :-( Will be so glad when its all done and get to move to our new sunny home :-)

Thanks again
Susan & Peter

Hi  this is not the best news.  My daughter has an appointment next week (already delayed from june due to paperwork) and now I had to tell her DBS not suitable and not much time to get ACRO but better now than at her appointment.  Is there no end to the problems they keep making.  She had the same problem with married certificate and doctors letter.

I do hope after all this she gets her visa.

Denise

Hold the faith, it is frustrating! When I applied the FCDO had a backlog of about 3 weeks so a document that would normally be returned within a week took  3 times longer. The change from DBS to ACRO came into effect in March 2021. I did mention to the consulate to update their site but nothing was done to my knowledge!

Kimmy (one of our members) asked Steve1686 to write a guide about his experience of applying for an NLV, as he's the first member to have achieved it:

"My wife and I applied for a NLV; we started the process in late February time.  I set a time limit out of what I needed etc.  I was very new to this but decided I would give it a go and do it myself rather than paying stupid fees to agencies....

...

So here goes:

Price - the fee is £516 per person this is paid at the consulate when you have your initial appointment

Private medical insurance - this has to be taken out prior to your appointment.  Ours was 8th April, our policy started 1st April, cost approx 1400 euros for both of us - you need a copy when you attend your appointment and it must be a Spanish company.

Documents - 2 x application forms with 2 x passport forms; these don’t need translation.

EX01 form and 1 copy - if you go on line and google the form, there's a cheat sheet explaining how to complete it.

790 form as above

Other documents required:

Medical certificate with apostille stamp and a sworn translation.  The sworn translation doesn’t need the stamp, it needs to be within 3 months of application.  There is a template which you can give your GP; only thing they have to do is sign and stamp it.

Police Check as per above https://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx

There’s the link

If married, marriage certificate, again as above apostille and translated.

Last 3 months bank statements. These DO NOT need translating; however, what I did I can a notary just to put his stamp on them.  I felt this just added a little extra to the document which I feel is the main focus of the NLV.

I have recently retired and so I had my pension statement apostilled and translated.

Finance minimum 32k pee couple this doesn’t have to be income it can be a combination of savings etc.

Copy of passport main page

So what did I do

I googled a local notary in my area went to see him with the above documents that needed the apostille stamp left them with him he sent them away and they came back within 4 days

I also gave him my bank statements he put his notary stamp on them.

He gave me the contact details of a local translation company I emailed them a copy of the documents that needed translating they did this then the translators visited the notary and did the swearing iof the documentation in front of the notary.

All done

I emailed the consulate in Manchester my wife and I did individual ones as stated on the website however this is not necessary one email is ok however each applicant needs individual documents.

We had our appointment on the 8th April the appointment was very relaxed I had completed a few extra documents these weren’t required the staff extremely helpful.

We paid the fee our passports were handed over and told we would hear something within 15 -20 days

I received an email on Monday to say we had the application accepted I received an email yesterday stating I could collect our passports I attended today and picked them up we had stated on our application form we wanted the visa to commence 25th May and this is the case on the stamp.

If you take a addressed envelope with you to your appointment the staff will post your passports back to you this is something I picked up today.

I have contacted my solicitor in Spain who is going to assist me with the 2nd stage of the application I feel they have the knowledge and contacts over there and so that’s where ii have decided to pay someone to help me.

The process over here for two of us with visa fee, medical insurance and notary and translating fees aporox £2700

My thoughts at the start I didn’t have a clue what to do I sat down thought about it did a little research and completed it alone in the end it was stress free and fairly simple I think if you give yourself a month for everything the main issue for me was getting my GP to sign the forms not though they wouldn’t it was just a little hassle getting them to do it Covid etc.

Yeah it’s fairly pricey but if you want yo live your dreams then it’s well worth it I must admit I did feel a sense of achievement this morning when we collected them.

Obviously this is based on Manchester consulate I am aware others may differ slightly.

Hope this helps everyone; I know there is a lot of posts on here what is needed etc., but that's it."

Hi

I have read your article which was very informative.  I am just getting the iformation needed but wondered if you knew of anybody that hadnot bought a property as we would like to rent first before buying as not sure which property we want.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sue

So just to be completely clear……

Get the documents then send to the translator for sworn translation. Can this be done electronically?

Once translated they are then sent to the notary who legalises them and sends off to FCDO for apostille stamp and returned. Is this correct?

Interesting to read other comments which all give a slight variation of the process.

I don’t know what I would have done without the help and support of this forum and thanks for all your comments.

I'm on the understanding the documents need to be Apositlle stamped before translation. Or at least that is what i was told be a sworn translator.

This is what she sent me by email:

Thanks for your email, I can confirm that the cost for the translation of the 2 x ACRO certificate + 2 x medical certificate + Apostilles -the Apostilles need to be done before the documents are sent for translation- would be GBP 90 (this includes standard postage).

Firstly the final stop is the FCDO (Apostile) so the documents do have to be translated first.

I was initially told to get my documents Notarised, translated and then sent to FCDO, this was a mistake and cost me time and money.  Didn’t need the notarisation!

I used the London Consulate. FCDO definitely need the translated documents.

Hi, we have also got our visa in our passports and flying on 28 th July to our house, we also did everything ourselves and our total cost was another grand, the notary was charged differently depending on who you used and also varied prices in translation services. Some GPs will charge for the co...

...mpletion of the form. We used assa for our insurance and will shop around when we are in Spain to try to recover the extra paid. Manchester consulate were very helpful and friendly. We are not at pensionable age yet and looking forward to spending a few months in the sunshine.  We will also be using a solicitor for the completion in Spain. All I will say is don't be put off with the forms etc, just give yourselves time to complete it all, gather all your paperwork and go for it.

Thank you.

Can anyone help me how did you get the appointment at the consulate?? We have emailed and trie to book online to no avail.
