Hi S,

I had my first AZ jab at the Torrevieja vaccination centre this morning and agree with your comments: the organisation was excellent and the staff were charming and very patient.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hello Kimmy,

I very much agree, from the moment I arrived, went through a couple of identity checks, had the vaccine and was let go after a 15 minute wait immediately afterwards for safe measure, it was run like clockwork, all times so well. There were hundreds of people there but no queue as there was a flow. The staff both clinical and support were friendly and helpful.

I have accompanied a couple of times those who had the Pfizer and these two ran smoothly. I get the similar report from others.

A positive experience all round, Kimmy.

Best wishes

S

Hear, hear. My thoughts exactly when l first read the post. Pix Elated, are you being held in Spain against your will? Given any two options, eg another country and Spain,  who in their right mind would choose the lesser one?

The week before last, a friend drove me to have my vaccine. We were both jaw droppingly impressed by the precision with which it was organised. His comment was, 'They could not organise it so well at home'.
...

...

I hope you reminded your friend that the UK vaccination approach has been a great success seemingly well organised and executed. My own sister in law is involved and tells me everyone is working very well together with statistics showing they are getting the job done quickly.

I'm all for praising the Spanish approach but it's unnecessary to infer one set of health planners and practitioners are better than any others.

There is clearly a way to go yet in Spain but momentum is building which is great for us who live here.

Totally agree regarding inferences drawn; these should not be better nor worse, which is a point you have made well.

In full agreement with the sentiment of your last paragraph.

Just playing around with the numbers available from the Valencian health website in excel.

Given many in early groups 1 & 2 (age 50 and greater) have already had 1st and 2nd jabs age 80+ cohort second jabs % is 75%.

Assuming;

1/ many in age 80 and under have only recently had 1st jabs and for AZ it's a 12 week gap and for future Jansen jabs it's a single dose.

2/ an appreciating supply of vaccine doses available (Jansen)

3/ AZ is used for significant numbers.

Numbers as of todays spreadsheet

  • Total aged 50 and over is 19.2 million
  • 1st Doses administered 8.7 million
  • Delta 10.4 million
  • Jabs per day 7 day rolling average 291k
  • Days to complete = 36
  • 15% error margin with my numbers = 41 days

So it's entirely plausible that all over 50's will have at least 1 vaccine by 8th June crucially before the need for second doses of AZ needs administering and which starts eating into the 1st dose daily number.

Obviously this is my view and not necessarily what the future looks like :)

When you will receive your first jab is dependant upon where you live and how old you are.   I am 77 and live in Almoradi.   I had my first jab (Pfizer) exactly 2 weeks ago and also was given my appointment for my second jab which is to be next Wednesday, exactly 3 weeks after the first.   The nurse who gave me the jab was very friendly and helpful - I never felt the injection and have had no side effects whatsoever.   I find that if you are friendly with Spanish people, and try to speak to them in their own language, they tend to 'bend over backwards' to help you.

Just had a neighbour tell me that at 59 they have received the text inviting them for a jab next week.

They don't have a physical temporary SIP card but instead used the links for online registration which were circulating a while back.

AZ.

Hello, I am pleased to hear you have had jab. I went along with two  friends yesterday who were due to have theirs within 30 minutes of each other. We went along a bit early and by the time to have theirs had arrived they too had had it and were out. As yourself, both were impressed by the organisation.

I had my first Pfizer jab yesterday - so rather pleased with my estimation aged 51, next one in 3 weeks time - things are looking up.
