San Pedro Del Pinatar. We usually get by by ourselves with limited Spanish but when we went in January we had some questions and there was a lovely guy working there with very good English.

San Pedro is in Murcia, so an ITV there won't include the sound test that is mandatory for a vehicle registered in the Valencian Community.

Jim, is it OK if you have the ITV in San Pedro and the sound test in Valencia?

It is Cheryl - no problem with that.

I'd point out that it very unlikely you'd be caught out for not having a sound test. I don't know if the police have an app that tells them where a vehicle was tested, and they'd be unlikely to want to look at the paper counterpart to the ITV test where the sound test is recorded as 5.1. All I've ever seen them do is look at the windscreen sticker.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I moved to Spain 2 months ago I am 75, I don't think anyone can learn a language in such a short time, as I need to transfer the Car onto Spanish plates as soon as possible I thought it sensible to ask the question.

I will be leaning Spanish!!!!!

I assume you're aware that there is more to transferring a UK plated car to Spanish than just an ITV.

For example, you'll need new headlights, and if you've only got one each fog and reversing light, then these will need switching.

For the full monte on the requirements, look at:

Thanks again Jim. We have an old Land Rover Discovery and there are a few things that our local ITV station at Redovan don't like. They don't like tow bars and until recently didn't accept the flat-lined lights. We also have side steps (so I can get in!) and we would have to remove these. At Pinar they are no problem so we had been taking it there until I suddenly remembered the extra sound test required in Valencia so we planned to take it to Redovan purely for this, just to be on the safe side. We have sailed right past road blocks without being pulled over a few times so I think you are right, as usual, about what they check but I'm still going to get the sound test done.

Hi Cheryl - you're like me - better safe than sorry.

I can understand the 'unauthorised' modifications to the vehicle being a problem at an ITV, but you've proved that some centres are a bit more relaxed than others. I know a few people who go to Redovan rather than their nearest centre but, so far, I've not had a problem at San Bartolomé.

Good luck.

It's a French registered car therefore will conform without a problem. I have someone doing the transfer for me but I have to arrange the ITV, as I have only been her 2 months don't speak Spanish yet therefore looking for and ITV place with someone who speaks English

Thanks for the web link.
