ITV renewal

Hi,

Looking for some information renewing the ITV on our car.

We are due to arrive in San Miguel on 10th March however our ITV is due to be renewed this month (February).

Does anyone know of a garage in San Miguel I could contact to arrange an appointment for inspection to be done as soon as possible after our arrival. We always used Autos Direct before but they no longer have a mechanical dept.

I'm a little concerned about driving the car with an expired ITV but don't know if any leniency being given by police due to the fact of being unable to travel until recently.

Legally you aren’t allowed to use the vehicle and need to arrange for the gruas to take your vehicle to the test station. It also invalidates your insurance and from memory the fine for driving a vehicle without an ITV increased to about 500€ sometime last year.

Our ITV was due in May last year but because of Uk travel restrictions couldn't get over until September. We had barely used it year before and its kept in our own garage when back in Uk, so after lots of dithering, I arranged appointment online and we drove it to the test station (20kms away). Went through no problem, no advisories either (it's old 2001) and noted the next ITV is due 12mnths later. We were surprised it wasn't backdated. So now due this September. Is this usual? We are inland rural so few police around thankfully.

Someone else can only take it if they have an official letter of authorization from the owner. We found this out recently when my husband was going to take our small second car which is technically in my name. We’d had the vehicle transferred into my name, to forestall any legal problems if anything happened to him and it was legally his, I would not have been allowed to use it.
