Can anyone out there help with a query. I cannot get a straight answer from our UK Government or anybody else for that matter

I read today in the Sunday Times about a couple that are house sitters etc. and rent out their place in Shepards Bush for long periods(?) and then enjoy a lot of time (months) in Spain France & other EU countries.

According to what was written the husband has an Irish Passport and she a UK. According to her comments as reported she enjoys unrestricted stays in the EU on account that her spouse is Irish.

My wife and I are in the same situation in that I am an Irish Passport holder as are my children but alas my wife is a UK national. We, the family, have assumed that she is subjected to the 90 limit whereas the rest of the family are not, now with the comments made in the article make us question the situation

Would anyone out there "in the know" be able to point me in the direction of either a source of reliable information or explain their experiences. We don't want the wife to fall foul of the legislation.

Regards

Peter

In fact you are both restricted to the 90 day limit. If you want to stop in Spain past the 90 day limits you must sign on the foreigners register within the first 3 months of arrival. If you do that then your spouse can piggy back on your Irish passport.

Don't forget that technically exceeding 183 days will automatically make you tax resident.

Don't sign on a padron either as that is a legal statement that you habitually live in Spain with all the potential consequences which can flow from that.

Go to the Dog & Bone behind Consum on the way to the N332 roundabout. The people in there speak English and the woman is English. Very knowable and helpful
