I,m afraid I cant understand why you,re taxiing back and forth from airport when cost of taxis would get you full insurance from a carhire co. for a week. You,d have no worries regarding damages, or being overcharged by them and money wasted on taxis would give you a stress free time and save returning next day to do carhire then. You could barter the charge for late pick up(usually 40€ approx) by saying you,ll "consider their full insurance protection", I,ve done that and they,ve scrapped the 40€ late fee.

I never said we'll go back to the airport next day to hire a car.
I said we'll hire a car next day. Meaning IN SANTA POLA.
Have you any recommendations for the car hire company with good reviews that opens 24hrs in the Alicante airport?

I,ve virtually used all of them, with good and bad times. I use "icarhire" insurance online for £39 for a year, to pay for any excess the companies take for damages etc. However to be totally stress free, take their unsurance, I used to barter the initial price if insurance until doing icarhire. Best one I have used most is Recordgo. Dont touch Goldcar. Rest all the same. Good and bad,
