If you are under State Pension age you will need Private Health Insurance when applying for Residencia, I would recommend that you speak to Alfonso at Gran Alacant Insurances, he is very helpful, professional and will take you through all the options, they advertise on the Forum or use the link below.

If you are over State Pension age contact DWP in Newcastle and speak to their Overseas Section to obtain your S1 Form to enable you to register in the Spanish Healthcare System.

Wishing you every success in your new life in Spain 😊

Several people have already given good advice to similar posts.

Perhaps try to type Medical Insurance into the search toolbar above followed by Everywhere into the Location toolbar, you will see many answers.

Also search Healthcare and Medical advice,  location Sax.

Hope this helps for a start.

Hello Bill and Wendy hope you are well.

The Spanish government announced ‘’ Healthcare in Spain 'free and universal' to all residents, legal or not. Sept 7, 2018. But it seems to have turned out a bigger joke than the sign in the pub ‘’free beer tomorrow’’.

Assuming you are below retirement age you will need to show insurance for residency purposes, even if you are a multi millionaire, and that’s whenever they start to accept residence applications again from Brits.

You could in reality get away with your EHIC for a period, but that is a case of breaking the rules as it’s only supposed to be for tourists and all that’s dependant on Boris.

Private health insurance companies vary on price and what they offer; you need to choose what suits you. Xyz maybe the best and cheapest this week but when they’ve sold enough policies the price may go up, next week it could be abc. Do all your research but always recheck the market before you press the button.

Have a good day and best of luck.

Hi I live near Sax. John56 together with having a read at Jim´s guide are worth referring to. (with links.)

You will get conflicting reports on this forum, with their experiences. There are others on the forum re: medical insurance. Good luck.

Another couple of helpful sites are:   Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for many queries that you will have and N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   The latter is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.   However, be aware that many provinces and towns ‘tweek’ the rules and regulations for their own procedures.    Also, many things may change after 31st October.
