Free SIP Card for all residents

Someone has told me that in July 2018 the Spanish government passed a law that all residents are now entitled to free National health in Spain. We currently have private health cover. Does anyone know how to apply for a permanent SIP card to give the free health cover?

We keep being told to complete the S1 process but this is to pay into the system and the DWP in the UK only complete the process for State pensioners or workers.

Hi Kim,

Many thanks for the information and the links, it all sounds very confusing. I think I shall stay with my private health insurance and temporary SIP card until more is known who it applies to.

The law you mention has a very definite exclusion clause, and unless Valencia pass their own legislation, then it isn't applicable. See my guide:
