We have a bike that we would prefer to bring with us when we move to Sax. We have heard that the red tape and legislation to do this is an absolute nightmare..but as this bike is a treasure we don't mind some effort..anyone gone through this and come out smiling?

Hi. Personally, I can´t help. Keep monitoring this forum, I´m sure you´ll receive some good advice. It´s complicated, yes, but not a total nightmare.

Have a look at Graham and Leigh's website, and if you don't want to do it yourself, then ask them for a price. Note that if the bike has been modified in any way from its original form, then that might cause a problem.

Hi Pauline, the process can be a little awkward depending on the bike and what if any modifications have been done to it. However, I would call Chris at the Foreign Exchange in Pinoso as he does this kind of work every day. He will be best placed to advise you of the process and costs.

Hi Pauline,

If you bring a bike over and want to change the plates, it can cost up to 1,000 Euros to do it (I have done it twice in the last ten years) I normally say to people, if you have a bike you really love and want to keep, and want to pay the price, then bring it here... if not, then sell it in the UK and buy one when you get here, much less hassle, although bikes can be a bit dearer here. I used a Gestor here to do it for me, but there are other change agents (as others have said on here) who can also do the job for you. It can cost more (or may not be possible at all) depending if there have been any modifications (and type of modifications) to the bike. So best to get a quote from a couple of agents, and take it from there. To save time, you could start the process from over there by sending all the bike details to an agent here, just to get some rough quotes etc.

Hi PaulineB

Make sure you can get a right hand dipping headlight for your bike before you start the process. As mentioned before MAKE SURE everything is standard. ( No accessories at all)
