Hi, Supermarkets are the worst with about a third of shoppers maskless and having  to ask  people standing right behind you at the checkouts to move back.

The impression you get here in the UK is that the pandemic is over and carry on as normal.

No surprise then that according to the news yesterday our infection rate is double the whole of the EU...

David.

Yes David, this is exactly what my friends and relatives are saying - the mindset change you refer to. I don't see much mindset change here on the Costa Blanca north. Everyone is still observing the rules

Anecdotally my sister in Scotland has tested positive today and is the most meticulous person you could meet - the kind that wiped supermarket trolley handles before any pandemic appeared.

My nephew in England has gone down with it too. I suspect some element of vaccine hesitancy in the young is driving this and of course it may be that there are variants in circulation that are much easier to catch.

Testing in the U.K. is non stop.

In London, in the tube stations you can see big signs up telling you to get tested if you aren’t feeling well. Signs directing to to test centres.  There are test centres all over the country and free of charge. If a country carries out as many daily tests as they do in the U.K. then you a...

...re going to have a pretty accurate account of the number of infectious people.

It saddens me to read so many unnecessary and rude comments about how the U.K. is governed. I wouldn’t like their job and doubt that I could do any better. People’s attitudes are all wrong. Remember this famous quote “ ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”.  If we all behaved like decent human beings and stopped moaning, we’d be far better off and happier too.

Hi,

I live in a large town in the Midlands and to my knowledge there's only one walk in testing station in the centre which I've never seen anyone go in or out . maybe it's the 'if you are feeling unwell' the reason only a few go in.

The worst thing the tory's did was relax restrictions because people are so brainwashed they Think it's all over.. which probably explains why the the local hospital is filling up again with Covid patients.

This pandemic needs a strong government not one that treats it like the goose that laid the golden egg.

It's a shame that people have forgotten to think for themselves and follow scientific advice.

Hi Steve,

Spot on.. the virus certainly seems easier to catch even when you take all precautions..  problem is many people think it's no worse than catching a cold but if they worked in a hospital (as my ex does) they would think different.

Regards,

David.

Are you suggesting that UK's figures are genuine, rest of Europe's is fake ? Hard to believe that.

Wouldn't believe anything that came from the UK government.

It's rude to believe that Spain or other EU countries are not doing enough testing. You wonder how it's possible to have 278 million tests when total population is only 67 million. ...hey didn't even know if anyone received them or took the test, let alone returned them.

Now which test figure is more honest, Spain's 60 million or 278 million ?

Some of the comments seem to come from people with Brexit mentality.

With the track record of lies coming from this UK government it wouldn't surprise me if they said today was Friday and some  people would believe it 🤣

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

It's precisely this kind of attitude that is contributing to the recent sharp rise in Covid cases, particularly in US & UK.

Must admit i for one have had 10-12 various tests re flying and other events as have most of my friends so the uk test figure is no suprise to me. Also the nhs test kits we needed had to be picked at the local council buildings never heard of millions been sent out. Certainly the younger generations in cities appear to be where the vaccine take up is more problematic but in saying that nearly all people i see on public transport and shops in London do adhere to mask wearing.

I think most people in the UK are obeying the rules still but you have to remember that the rules here are different, both within the UK and to Spain. In Scotland there is still a greater requirement to wear masks than the England, yet if you look at the current infection rates in Scotland they are higher than England. So what is the best approach?

As for Spain religiously following the rules, their infection rates over the long term are worse than the UK, what would be the reason for that?

For the past 18 months we have behaved pretty much the same in Spain as we do when we are in the UK, wear masks, social distance, wash hands. Most everyone I know is doing the same.

Aitch.
