Hi Stephanie,

"It is not a given that they would have enjoyed it instead of working."  You seem to suggest that I said Republicans watched the funeral - I didn't.

Personally, I believe we had good value from Queen Elizabeth II.  I'm reminded of President Macron's words, "To you, she was your Queen.  To us, she was The Queen."  But I do take issue with them, because whilst there are other Queens in the world, to me our Queen was also "The Queen".  I think it's a mistake for anyone to underestimate her contribution to our nation.

Whether that continues for future generations remains to be seen.  I'm encouraged that King Charles III and the Prince of Wales favour a much-slimmed down Monarchy, which will get rid of the "hangers-on", but only time will tell.

Kind regards,

Kim

I don't know what "good value" you had from queen, but your comment is an insult to millions who suffered during her reign, and she did nothing to alleviate their pain.

It's a myth that the royals bring in more money than they cost. Some tourists come to view the looted/stolen treasures. Is this something to brag about ?

At least they come for something to do with the Monarchy, be it the castles, the jewels or whatever. That shows the monarchy and the items not owned by them, but the crown, contribute massively to the nation by the way of earnings from tourism. As far as stolen, could be debatable as bought in good faith at the time....hundreds of years ago. Also all nations are guilty if that's the case for exactly the same dealings in their past.

The Queen or King of the UK is a head of state and a major employer in the country. She or he are in no way involved politically with the running of the country, or any other country that was under British rule at the time.  I couldn't be bothered listening to the MSNBC report in any details as that will be from an American point of view and they showed their intelligence by voting in the last president, but we won't go there. Most American tourists come to the UK because of the Monarchy and our history, because the USA doesn't have one of its own.

The Queen presided over 70 years of massive change around the world, including Kenya's independence in 1963.  If you go back through the history of many nations, you will find similarly horrific stories, but to hold her wholly responsible for such atrocities is disingenuous.

To claim that stolen treasures were bought or that monarchy contributes to nation is a lie propagated by monarchists and racists who do not give a toss about the suffering of other nations. How does a country's independence wipes out centuries of torturing and murdering their people and looting their treasures ? Such claims come from extreme selfishness, arrogance and hypocrisy.

And to claim otherwise is a lie propagated by bigots and republicans. The suffering of nations still goes on now under their own countries leaders, be them democracies or dictatorships.

As you say

Ignorance is the root and stem of every evil - Plato.

Strange that Boca J, would mention Plato. A monarch ( last king of Athens) I believe nearly 500 years before Romans started nailing people to crosses because of their beliefs. Many empires have come & gone since then, ( many with dubious histories). Where should "we" start changing history? V

The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
