I streamed the UK song. It was dismal. Deserved nil points.
I doubt the current UK/EU relationship helped much.

Only once before. At least we can fish in the channel now without worrying about any EU quotas.

Yes, it seems the fishermen are over the moon about it

Of course they're over the moon - they're now catching "happy fish"! ;o)
To be honest, I was surprised that James Newton lowered himself to Eurovision, a talented singer-songwriter who won a Brit Award in 2014 for British Single of the Year. Personally, I liked the song and believe that, released in the UK, it would probably have made the charts, but the overall stage presentation was understated by Eurovision's standards - which could explain why I thought the winning song from Italy was more presentation than content. I really liked the opening song offered by Cyprus, but could anyone remember it by the time we'd heard all 39 entrants? I also like Portugal's entry, but it was panned by the critics.
I guess that all this proves is that it comes down to individual taste - and individual politics! I don't think there's any doubt that Brexit influenced the country voting for the UK, but that doesn't explain the lack of public votes. Given how much the UK pays to support this contest, via the BBC's contribution to the European Broadcasting Union (£310K this year, guaranteeing the UK's place in the final), I'm surprised Brexit politicians haven't been asking questions in Parliament, LOL!
Still, perhaps fans can be forgiven a bit of kitsch in another Covid year...... :o)

I never watch the abysmal damn thing but have been subjected by reports of ‘Null points’ since it happened.
I believe the UK song was so good that it scored exactly the right amount of points. It wasn’t music, it was noise……. and I’d hazard a guess that the rest were as good/bad.
Let’s face it, any ‘Euro’ contest where Australia takes part has to be a joke… 😂

Hi BeniSnowbird,
Australia also contributes to the European Broadcasting Union, they don't have to be geographically located in Europe. There is a restriction in that, should Australia win the competition, the following year they could not host it in their own country, it would have to be hosted on the European continent.
Kind regards,
Kim

At least Australian judges or Australian public could have given us a point or two, they have nothing to do with UK-EU relations. I suggest we ban all imports from Australia until they start giving us points at Eurovision.
Automatic qualification should be banned too. Everyone should earn their place in the finals. It's ironic that three of the automatic qualifiers (UK, Germany & Spain) finished in the bottom three.
However there is an immediate chance of revenge, at Euro 2020 which starts in a few days.

I use to like the Eurovision song contest they always had some poor songs in it but they also had some good songs I also thought Portugal entry was good and I thought that the UK entry was the best for a long while however I think it was badly let down by the staging as it was the worst staging in the whole show and I felt sorry for James he was badly let down don't know who was responsible for the staging but they should be dismissed and although a lot of people still want to watch it it's time for BBC to spend the licence money on better programs than this
This is only my opinion but it is time to scrap the Friends voting for friends and the UK has not got too many so called friends

I thought Australia was a friend of UK. However if other countries are capable of producing songs in English (instead of their own language) which consistently rank above UK's, then surely UK should be able to produce a half decent song in their own language.
