Could it be that UK government's economic consideration outweighs any health issues, otherwise why schools & businesses are still open ? There is no lock-down as in Spain.

I think that's unfair. I'm not a fan of the Tories, in fact, the opposite, I'm long time member of the labour party, but I think it's unfair some of the criticism the government have been getting. Are they putting economic considerations above health? I don't see how anyone can say that. If (big IF) what they have announced is taken at face value, they are doing a lot to support businesses of all sizes. More is needed, but they've said this is just the start.

why schools & businesses are still open?

Many businesses are not. Many businesses that can continue, or indeed need to continue, are remaining in operation. What should they do? Should ALL business just stop? Can you even begin to imagine the catastrophic repercussions of that?

Why are schools open? Why close them? But, suspect that is being announced anyway later today. Regardless, there seem to be good medical and social reasons to keep them open and not that much pointing to closing them, other than to appease the herd.

As I say, as a Labour member it's not in my nature to support a Tory government, but given the circumstances, and the fact that this is uncharted waters, and the fact that they appear to be doing what few governments around the world are doing: Following proper scientific and medical advice, I think everyone needs to get on the same page.

If UK government are doing such a wonderful job, then why is £ being battered, but Euro and Dollar remain unaffected ?

I suppose those countries imposing lock-down are overreacting.

Ok, I said nothing along the lines of what your implying I said, so I see no point in continuing to discuss this with you.

I don't see this as simple as one country versus another. Each country is trying to be driven by the numbers and capacity of their health services and specifically the availability of ventilators.

Given so many people who have the virus present no symptoms at all the value of number "infected" is not hugely helpful given those tested are already in trouble with their symptoms.

The UK govt today is hopeful that with a new test, which will show antibody presence for those who have had it but presented no symptoms, will help matters. These people will be able to go out and lead a normal life - if assumptions about single infection prove to be right. To date no such test is available for mass roll out.

The problem all countries face is that the lock down period loses its efficacy if people return to normal soon after given there will be carriers still out there showing no symptoms. We might simply see cases rise again in the vulnerable groups.

It does "feel" as if severe restrictions will be in place for months and likely take in the Summer period. How this will work is anyone's guess at the moment.

This whole thing doesn't feel particularly political, which is perhaps the only good things about it.
