Hi, Planning to spend up to 6 months a year at my home in Torre once the Brexit / Virus apocalypse levels out. I have just had a quote for health insurance at €340 a month. Wow, my uk insurance is £55 with Aviva. Male 60 no underlying health issues. Is this about the price or are they having a laugh?

They are having a laugh.

My brother-in-law (60 years old) obtained quotes 3 months ago.

He has no pre-existing conditions.

The top-spec plan was Eu 1040/year. This plan has no co-pays, and is suitable for Residency.

The lowest spec plan was Eu 473/year (but this has co-pays and will not qualify for Residency).

There were 2 other plans as well.

The insurer was DKV (who my wife and I use - we are very satisfied, and can recommend them).

The broker was Britannia Legals in Campoverde - a short drive from Torre.

The premiums are collected annually (in January).

Thanks Kevin, FYI the quote was from Allianz so will follow up your lead.

Good info there from Kelvin. I was also with DKV. I was advised to ask them to issue a covering letter with the policy which stated the Insurance was compliant with Residency requirements and they did this.

(This was because at the time some insurers were selling policies that turned out not to be!)

Insurers are aware that there is currently a surge in demand and as a result some may try it on with inflated quotes as seems to be the case here.

One thing to be aware of is that brokers will usually try to place you with the company that pays them the best commission so my advice would be to shop around as much as possible until you find the cover and price that's right for you.

Steve

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Thanks for the reply. At the moment probably the 90 day blocks due to the uncertain exchange rate for pensions. Will follow up your suggestion.
