Hi sligogent,

As of yesterday, Spain's infection rate was 112 people per 100,000 head of population - the lowest rate in Europe.  It's a useful distraction for the UK government (i.e. England), to talk about the EU's rapidly rising rates, but in reality, the main problem is in the North and East of Europe, i.e. Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, and the former USSR countries which have an inate mistrust of Russia and its vaccinations.  Unfortunately, the exception to this is the Republic of Ireland - because of its proximity to the UK!

Unlike the UK, Spain has never abandoned the restrictions of mask wearing and social distancing - it sounds like you would be happy to comply with Spain's restrictions, so I would hope you'll be fine.

Kind regards,

Kin

Figures are rising, but nowhere near to  the extent they are increasing in the rest of Western Europe.

Hence the reason the Spanish Health ministers have been meeting today.

New traffic light being brought in force soon. The traffic light system proposes that up to 100 cases per 100,000 is low risk, 100 to 200 is medium risk, 200 to 300 is high risk and over 300 is extreme risk.

Plus an announcement  is expected in the next 48 hours as to whether restrictions will be tightened for the Valencian bridge holiday, Christmas, Three Kings.

Bars may have to close slightly earlier depending on the rate of infection. CV is currently medium risk.

You can check figures across the world here

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

If you click onto Spain and then click on the source of figures for the day, you can a breakdown for each region.

Booster jabs being given at the moment, roll out is fairly slow, due to the fact that we no longer have vaccination centres open, so appointments are at your local salud.

Hi Lynn,

Don't you mean Eastern Europe?

Why mention the UK in your answer is it relevant to a question asked by someone flying from Ireland asking about the situation in Spain

Hi Auld Git,

If you look at the map included in my post above (from Our World in Data), you'll see the anomaly of Ireland's infection rate compared the rest of Europe.

Kind regards,

Kim

I am still not sure why the mention of the UK is relevant to the question asked about current situation in Spain for someone coming from Ireland

In Sligogent's original post, he said he "is a bit concerned" at the moment.  If he's spent the last 48 hours watching/listening to the distraction propaganda coming out of Westminster, I can understand why he would feel that way.  Hopefully, a rebalanced presentation of the data has eased his concerns.

Kind regards,

Kim
