Hi Lynn,

Don't you mean Eastern Europe?

Kind regards,

Kim

Probably both Kim, but I was actually thinking of the countries closest to us. The like of France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium Switzerland. But I agree the figures are on the rise over most of Europe.

In Sligogent's original post, he said he "is a bit concerned" at the moment.  If he's spent the last 48 hours watching/listening to the distraction propaganda coming out of Westminster, I can understand why he would feel that way.  Hopefully, a rebalanced presentation of the data has ea...

Kind regards,

Why mention the UK in your answer is it relevant to a question asked by someone flying from Ireland asking about the situation in Spain

I think it is relevant because information/ disinformation is coming out of the UK and this often where people start to look for information on the UK and EU.. so mentioning that the source of info from the uk is misleading is reasonable I think..

He did mentioned though  "rising rapidly around some parts of Europe".

I think Kimmy was correct to mention UK  given its the Republics nearest neighbour, they share a land and sea border and Irish citizens also have access daily to British media channels, most of which are doom merchants extraordinaire.

It's good to get a more balanced slant, which Kimmy provided.

A regular occurrence on most subjects I see posted on here, any opportunity to dis the UK, I generally take little notice of bitter ex pats.

Hi sligogent,

As of yesterday, Spain's infection rate was 112 people per 100,000 head of population - the lowest rate in Europe.  It's a useful distraction for the UK government (i.e. England), to talk about the EU's rapidly rising rates, but in reality, the main problem is in the North and East of Europe...

..., i.e. Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, and the former USSR countries which have an inate mistrust of Russia and its vaccinations.  Unfortunately, the exception to this is the Republic of Ireland - because of its proximity to the UK!

Unlike the UK, Spain has never abandoned the restrictions of mask wearing and social distancing - it sounds like you would be happy to comply with Spain's restrictions, so I would hope you'll be fine.

Kind regards,

Kin

I didn't realise the republic of Ireland was part of the UK, let alone England.

Correct, the Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK, nor is it part of England - I didn't say it was.  But you should probably check out the meaning of the word "proximity" 😉

I agree the news coming out of the UK is always doom laden, but if you want doom and gloom, tune into RTE ,Irish National radio ,and BBC radio Ulster, constant Covid 24/7 ,health services collapsing both sides of the border, infection rates, masks,on, off, bars open ,closed, endless dithering and confusion.

Nothing to do with UK being close as hardly anyone travels there from the UK this time of year ,cold and very expensive and riddled with constant restrictions. Also look at the map,France has direct Ferry line now into Dublin on a very regular timetable.

Any news concerning the UK is always " anti" part of the EU corporate policy of denigrating a country for leaving.

Benidorm receives daily ,planeloads of British tourists ,in the NewTown ,as the day proceeds ,mask wearing is intermittent as the tourists relax, and the town has not experienced any " spikes" in infection rates as all the tourists have to jump through hoops to get in a plane and so are possibly better protected than the residents.

Benidorm roll out of boosters is well on its way and very efficient at the local health centres, bit behind as regarding UK ,most of the Brit pensioners arriving had their boosters in October.

The UK is not the cause of everything bad happening in the EU but it is a good place to place the blame by the EU Governments and Brussels Overlords.

You will be okay in Spain away from the paranoia in Dublin on RTE of late.Masks in closed areas when standing up is a good basic guide and out and about in very crowded areas ,basically at your own discretion.

Worlds away from Ireland at the moment, listening this morning they were discussing everybody testing with antigen before they go out of the door and when they arrive home again and that antigen test kits cost €2.99 in Aldi.

Then one politician stating that Ireland has the best anti Covid record in the world and another one stating it is the worst in Europe.

I really think they have lost the plot at the moment!
