Why on earth would you think for one minute there will be a problem for us to holiday in the EU. Most EU countries would be stupid to make it awkward for UK residents to travel as countries like Greece totally rely on tourism to survive. Also it as just been announced that all flights to EU will ...

...fly as normal until June 21 as the UK and EU have agreed on a way forward as regards flying. And by the way 17.4million are not wrong. By the way are you English or European. If you are English why did you move to Spain and if you are European then you have no say in what goes on in the UK.

If you hold a British passport you are British wherever you live! What you 'feel' is a subset of that. For example I would describe myself as Scottish, British and European. These are things that can be mutually inclusive!

Britain is still on the Continent of Europe and much as some would like to change that I'm afraid Brexit won't.

Unfortunately, you are 100% correct.

The issue with it is a one way ticket,

No refunds, transfers etc.

Ni good going back tu the EU in five years

Time and asking come back? It just won’t happen and even if it did, it would be on such unfavourable terms and we are going

To get that anyway. The reality will only kick in when people want to go on their holidays and will be drastically different, when it becomes difficult and they will then say “I did not know it would mean this”

It will eventually sort itself out, economics

will drive it.

Davud

Ignoring all the other dross in your post could you explain how you think holidays are going to be so drastically different that people will think "let's rejoin the EU?"

Of course it won't affect the majority of holiday travellers, apart from Insurance, and medical care no longer available under EHIC.

But.... there is a substantial group who like to visit for more than 90 days at a time, and it will make a difference to their plans and habits.

The Celtic Tiger brought great wealth to everyone there and life improved beyond belief. Meanwhile, over the border because we were part of the UK, we got very little. Worse, the “troubles “ brought great pain and suffering to so much money had to be found to rebuild towns all over the country. The U.K. was paying millions into the EU coffers but we were not considered to be in need which we were. Our province didn’t move forward until very recently. The ferries used to transport us to the mainland were appalling, our trains were antiquated. We don’t actually have a rail link at Belfast International Airport, yet the closest railway is approximately 3 miles away ( I think). We flew into Dublin last week and there were buses galore waiting outside to transport people to various parts of the country. Come out of our airport and you will not see any buses because there aren’t any regular buses. You can get a bus which takes you to Belfast City but that’s no use if you don’t live there.  If the EU had pumped money into our province, things might have been different. It has taken years to finally provide good quality social housing which aren’t damp and single glazed. It is more than likely the same in other parts of the mainland . WE NEED TO KEEP OUR OWN MONEY FOR OUR OWN PEOPLE. We have given enough away. Poverty is still there and some people live a poor existence , a very poor existence.

I mentioned the Rep of Ireland benefitting from the EU and our beloved Spain is another example. Take a look at the roads system... fantastic. Rail system.. fantastic too. Yet Spain is not one of the countries paying huge chunks of money to support other countries. They have done well too.
So, intellectually challenged , I think not.   The whole concept of the EU is good in many ways but not financially for the UK, Germany and France. Share and share alike , in an ideal world a very good idea but it’s now time to put things right at home. Our NHS needs a massive injection of funds, our armed forces have been drastically reduced over so many years, education is of paramount importance. It’s time to put our own house in order.
It’s sad to be leaving the EU but needs must.  Our country is in a sorry state and it’s time to put things right and we will.  There are those who believe that we won’t survive and that all hell will be let loose. No way.!!  Life has a way of moving on and it will be different but in due course, we will think nothing of it. The EU are furious that we decided to leave and clearly decided to be darned awkward ( very grown up attitude) Now, with a week or two to go, it’s full steam ahead. Think of all the good money wasted trying to arrange a deal , millions down the drain and it will all be thrashed out in a matter of weeks.

Life will go on as usual. My late mother in law used to say “ it’ll be a seven day wonder” and it is true. People lose interest very quickly. Life changes as we have all witnessed this year.
Happy Christmas to you all.

Hi Grannyrose,

I am sure your mother also used the saying "sticks and stones may break my bones, etc: - ignore the idiots who post deliberately provocative posts just to illicit a response. The vast majority of leave voters I know have accepted the result, as evidenced in the 2019 UK election result.

Rgds,

The people affected by the 90 day rule will be a tiny percentage of the annual UK travellers to Spain and I am sure they will be able to adapt to the new rules.

The vast majority of tourists will hardly be affected. I do accept your point about about medical cover, that will add a cost to a holiday. That's assuming that there is no reciprocal deal put in place between the UK and individual EU countries. Drastically different, I think not!

It will of course find its natural level as these things always do.The medical insurance

issue was going to happen regardless of Brexit. There nothing really to replace

appropriate travel insurance anywhere in the world.

Some of these things are not new, just readjusted.

I see that today British Airways are ending some of their international routes across the

world. Airlines really affected worldwide with

Airline passenger downturns.

Many countries so reliant on Tourism, UK

Is also one of them.

Whatever we all say on here and comments

we all make, there is a common thread

We love Spain, if it is the weather, the culture and the people. We are all humans

and what ever our opinions are, we all need

to take stock on our lives more now than ever before.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I hardly think someone with a degree in history and politics would be labelled intellectually challenged!

Why would it not change. We would revert back to a sovereign country. Which we were before joining the EU. We was not part of the EU continent then?

Totally agree with every word it has been brilliant for countries like Spain but at great financial expense to the UK.  I live in Spain and understand things may prove less easy but I put my cross in the box to Brexit as it’s not about me it’s about what I felt was best in the long term for the UK.  I am of an age where I can remember how life was before the UK became part of the EU and the hardships for some and businesses that were forced to close due to being unable to compete with their EU counterparts.  Sure it will be tough at the beginning but they will eventually be better off.  Look at Singapore as an example and everyone said they would never make it alone.
