Hi. I thought this might be of interest to anyone who doesn’t have a SIP Card, and is concerned about how to get on the list for a Coronavirus vaccination.

I went into the Salud in Torrevieja this morning with my TIE card and EHIC card, and asked for. Temporary SIP card so that I could be included in the vaccination programme.

The receptionist registered my details, using both TIE and EHIC cards, asked for a Spanish phone number, then printed me out a temporary SIP card and said they would contact me by phone in due course.

I went there at 9am, and there was only one person in front of me. It took about ten minutes, but I feel lot better for knowing I’m in the system .. however long it now takes to get the call.

Hope my experience is helpful to others.

Thank you for your post, what age group are you and is it a necessity to have a EHIC card? As mine is out of date. I gained my residency/tie last August and have private health insurance, my age group is a young 61. Stay safe and healthy my friend.

Hi

Can you tell me please why if you have your TIE and are a resident why would you need or even have an EHIC?

We have been residents for nearly 3 years and have private healthcare ,we are going to our local health centre next week to try and register and be put on the list for vaccination, I hope they don't want an EHIC as ours ran out 18 months ago.

Fingers crossed we get a sympathetic receptionist 😀

Hi Peter. I think it is. I showed her my TIE, and she asked for my Blue Card. I didn’t know what she meant - I showed her my private health cover card and she shook her head. Then she came around from her desk and pointed to a poster about EHIC. Luckily, I had mine with me. I’m a 59 year old early escapee, so I don’t have an S1 and haven’t worked in Spain.

Hi Jem. I have no idea - I was surprised they asked for it, but luckily I had it with me and in date. I showed her my private healthcare card, but she wasn’t interested in that, and came around the desk to point at the EHIC poster.

The only thing I can think of, is that perhaps their system needs them to complete a box that either has a SIP number or EHIC.

Thanks Jill, that's encouraging.

I also don't have a current EHIC, but coincidentally, was advised today that Comunidad Valenciana issued instructions last Wednesday to the Medical Centres that any legal resident, non-pensioner, can present their Residency, plus up-to-date Padron, and request a "Numero de SIP sin cobertura y privados" (if you get any resistance at the medical centre, that wording is important). This gives us a number only, no SIP card, and we'll be contacted at the relevant time for our age group to attend for vaccine.  We may, however, have to pay a fee for the nurse to administer the injection, but not for the vaccine itself.  As this instruction only went out last week, it's suggested that people should at least wait to register until nearer the time for our age group.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you Kimmy11, for your response, very kind of you to keep us updated, again you have put my mind at rest as I am the worrying type, I am following every post that mentions the vaccine! Let’s hope we can all share new information on here together and saved in my box. Have a nice weekend, stay safe and healthy, Peter.

I went to El Acequion - just off the N332, fairly near the salt belt, as we live in Los Balcones. No problem with roadside parking nearby at that time of the morning - I’ve marked it on the map below.

I expect it will be some time before they get around to those in the 50s-60s age bracket, but I just feel better knowing I’m in the system.

Good luck and stay safe.

Hi, thank you, yes that is my local salud, as I can walk there in 10 minutes, my only concern is the EHIC card, I do have everything else, I will let you know the outcome when I decide when I chance it. Thank you again for your help. Stay safe and healthy and enjoy the weekend. Peter
