Whereas I suspect that they will be equally concerned about people coming to work illegally or to take up residence illegally.  A return ticket is one bit of evidence that you are merely there for a holiday (of less than 90 days).

They almost certainly won't be checking everyone, but I am certain that there will be people getting turned away at the border because they only have a one way ticket....

...

On the other hand, you may be right and the Spanish border agents won't ever play silly beggars with Brits arriving in Spain.

Yes, requirement to demonstrate return or onward travel for TCN's has also been about controlling ilegal immigration

Don't think I am reading that wrong as all of that content is under the Visa or Period of Stay Extension heading.

I agree that the Gov.UK page says you MAY have to show a return ticket but that is very different to 'having' to as the poster stated. This has been the case for TCN's for many years as Spain/ Schengen are concerned about people entering who do not have the means to exit or support themselves. I ...

...think a middle-aged bloke with property in Spain and able to demonstrate money in the bank would not be denied entry on this basis.

Hi, can I just get confirmation about the shengen agreement. I worked away for 12 months back in 2001 and am pretty sure we weren’t members of the shengen agreement then so has this changed since or have I always had it wrong?

Don't  worry I think you will be able to get a Visa for a 6 months stay.

I totally agree, I think Spain will relax its 90/180 day rule once the dust settles a bit. Its been a crazy time what with Brexit and Covid. I'm sure nobody foresaw this coming. Let's hope for brighter days for everyone 🌞

it has got nothing to do with Spain as long as they are part of the Svhengin zone However if they leave which i doubt  it may be a differant matter

I'm sure, in time something will be agreed.

However, Britons with 2nd homes are not a priority for the Spanish Govt at the moment due to Covid, the economy and unemployment.

However, it will be on the radar and hopefully by next year Spain and UK can have something in place that suits both parties.

Oh I do hope so Angela 66

I do too, but remember this is in Spain gift and theirs alone.

England voted for Brexit, it now has, to deal with the consequences of "taking back control", even if that means stop listening to right wing politicians who played the race card for a leave vote.

If folk are to complain, then it has to be towards Westminster and not Madrid or Brussels.

I feel heart sorry for those who voted Remain and find themselves in this mess as a result of Brexit.

Scotland is in England, isn’t it ,as is Wales and NI.

When the UK was part of the EU we were exempt from Schengen restrictions, (just as Ireland, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia and Romania still are exempt).  But Schengen didn't exist back in 2001 anyway so a lot has changed since then.

And going to these non- Schengen countries means no 90 days in 180 days restrictions. But you would still fall into their tax system should you stay longer than 180 days continuously.
