I wonder what the chances are of this flight actually taking off? Like many others I am very keen to visit my property again but, of course, I am concerned that even though Jet 2 are taking my money and booking me on a flight that it may be too soon.

I suppose you have to take a risk that it will all be much better by then and, even if it is not, the worst that will happen is that they will offer me a later flight....

...

Just wondering if anyone has taken the plunge and gone for an early July flight?

Hi Michael,

I moved my early July flight (Easyjet) to early August, thinking that Spain wont allow UK Citizens until we have COVID19 under control.

I think early July is to soon, although i do hope im wrong for your sake.

We will have to wait and watch what happens

KR

We took the plunge at the beginning of the week and booked flights back to the UK with Jet2 on the 6th of July. Have lost all faith in both Easyjet and Ryanair as we have been here since the beginning of March and had 4 lots of flights cancelled between these 2. Fingers crossed we'll get lucky this time(and Boris has given up on his 14 day quarantine idea!)

Linda - Boris has done today's briefing and I can assure you he has not given up on the quarantine! It is starting on Monday 8th June.

What is interesting however is that the government have today changed the rules on CV rules being reviewed every 4 weeks, yet BoJo referred to this current measure being reviewed in 3 weeks time. That all coincides with month-end and does give the govt the chance to change their mind (if the 4-week rule does not apply?!)

I am keeping a hopeful, open mind on this and many of you are aware I am desperate to get back to be with my family. However, I am simply not taking the risk yet! No amount of 'cheap' flight offers will convince me to buy at this time, just yet. I will simply wait until nearer the time.

I am not a pessimist by any stretch, but under these uncertain times, I am being a realist rather than my usual optimistic self.

Looking at some of the other posts I can see emotions are still running high and all anyone can focus on is facts and not speculation. The facts remain that for non-residents, especially from the UK under the current stats, we have no guarantee that Brits will be allowed in. That applies to law-abiding and respectful citizens as well as 'lager louts' so loved by other forum members (tongue in cheek comment!).

What will be will be?

What I seriously struggle with though is the introduction of rules that simply cannot be monitored or policed.

The throwaway comment about going for a walk to view a property... I appreciate was a tongue in cheek comment... but who would know?! What I would say is that there is an increase in risk profile having just travelled by plane (I note someone else talks about their own car on a ferry... this post or another) but let's face it, planes are not the healthiest of places at the best of times and yes, there is talk of the airlines introducing HEPA filters and sanitisation, but only sanitising once a week and if they fail to renew HEPA filters they are good as not bothering!

Anyway, just my thoughts based on the current situation. It is not good for many people and fear is high, as is stress due to containment and being deprived of what many believe are 'our rights' and whilst I have a view on common sense, just at this time it is very clear, we must simply play by the rules.

Hope it helps

Totally agree and have followed all the rules while we have been in lockdown here and if need be will also follow in the UK if we do manage to get home on the 6th of July.

In saying that we have both felt much safer here than we would have in the UK and if it were not for the extreme temperatures in July and August would quite happily stay until it is deemed much safer and the virus is under control.

I need to drive down as I am moving to Spain permanantly, so my van will have all my essential items packed into it.

I am booked on the channel crossing on 5th July, but if I have to move it back to mid or late July, I will. I have moved the date FIVE times already since I purchased my house.

No Residencia certificate (I can only apply for one in person, but the office is shut), but have copies of my house sale in the UK and (copy) deeds for my new property to show if I get stopped by the French or Spanish authorities on route. However, both countries arent being helpful in responding to my predicament, seemingly only concerned with those flying in.

I can get from Dover to a Spanish border town without stopping for fuel in France, and once I refuel in Spain I can get to my home with lots of fuel to spare. I can unload my van, visit my solicitor to tie up a few things, before driving back to the UK to sell my van.

It's a gamble I will take once I know my chances of not being stopped are high.

Best wishes for a successful trip!

By 5th July, if the borders do open on the 1st, you should be fine.

I hope you make it through. Let us know how you get on.

We've had an offer accepted in principle on a property. We're currently living with parents after selling our house on 20th March - it's likely we'll have one stab at buying and occupying the house given we won't be able to come back to the UK and put our family at risk. We are favouring driving through France and also hope this might be possible from early to mid July.

It seems there are a fair few people doing similar things to us although healthy discounts on property seem readily available.

Flight wise I suspect that Ryanair and Easyjet will make sure their planes take-off regardless of the conditions at the other end - this might mean if you decide not to travel, due to restriction upon arrival, you won't be able to postpone without financial loss? It will no doubt unfold over the coming weeks.
