Hi.

Can anyone recommend a decent bank please to open an account with. Completing on a property in October and will just need an account for the basics (utility direct debits, etc and for holiday funds etc ). Close to la Fuente area please. Reviews I have seen on Sabadell are dreadful but not sure if...

... they relate to a specific branch. Thanks

Hi GTMK

Sabadell are OK they are all of a muchness to be honest, if your happy to pay the 140 euro a year fees then keep the account unless you need loans or a mortgage in Spain, I would be looking to close it at the anniversary and use Wise account as there are no fees and all DD's can be processed through this account.

They will offer their house insurance to offset the fee for the cheque which cost us 450 euros you require this for the house purchase, its worth taking this for the first year then use Iberian as it will save you ours was 39 euros less for the same cover, hope this helps.

Regards

Andrew

We're with Sabadell. They're ok and sort out any problems quickly if you call the Alicante based helpline. Two points though:

1) Their fees have gone from €30 to €40 per quarter in the 3 years we've been with them

2) The app has been locked twice for no reason and I've had to call the helpline to sort it. Once was in the UK but if you email them they'll call you from Spain so you won't incur international charges.

We were with Sabadell and weren't impressed. We are now with BBVA, and get free banking because we bought shares. However, the advice to open a Wise account, is brilliant. We note most people who have lived here a while use Wise - no fees for exchanging from sterling to euros, and I believe all the services are excellent

Yes you can get a debit card but free withdrawals are limited to €200 per month. However the ATM might have a charge.

Hi GTMK

Yes you do although as stated max withdrawl is £200.00 per month and then you have charges from atm, I have a Starling euro account for day to day spending plus you can withdraw cash from the Deutsche Bank at La Zenia roundabout for free.

I had a Sabadell account since I bought my place in 2015, but closed it earlier this year, as I was fed up paying 30 euro per quarter, for an account that was pretty much only for my utility bill payments. I now have an N26 account, which is all online. I started running it in conjunction with my Sabadell account until I was confident in it, which I am. It works great for me, it's free and its easy to set up, too. The only downside is that only 3 cash withdrawls per month are completely free and not all atm's accept the card - Sabadell being one. But thats a small price to pay, if you want a basic account that save you 120euro per year over Sabadell. Got to say though, no problems with Sabadell in all the time I had the account, apart from the charges.

Hi,

We have been with Sabadell for years and are still very happy with them. Their on line banking is easy to use and it takes seconds to transfer funds via Uk debit card.  Good luck with your new property purchase.

Debbie
