Sorry Paul , there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers as you got,  that was embarrassing , I thought your question was fine,  the ignorant way you were treated says it all.  They , the little group don’t even realise how they sound!   Yes, they do think they are ...

...still “ superior on the World stage , a throw back to Great Britain sadly.lol. They are a minority in Spain .     They will Never understand your meaning but I do, being a Scot, 😂.  I am praying the whole of the U.K. have a vote on Scotlands independence, I’ve just written the same to Nicola (leader SNP) and Lorna (leader The Greens) here’s hoping haha.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I think that’s an ignorant comment actually

So you don't find the comment about the English thinking that they're superior ignorant then?

Anyhow, there is a subtle clue at the end of my post which gives insight to how serious i was with my comment. The wink with a smiley is the give away.

It just really annoys me ...maybe it's because I'm Welsh and not English . The English have always in my humble opinion considered themselves to be somewhat superior to everyone else.

I suppose it's the racist angle that I don't agree with.

Many like myself I have to say do not speak Spanish because we expect the locals to speak English.

Can you consider for a moment the abuse and criticism that many people who choose to live in the UK from overseas have to contend with if they don't speak English.

We from the UK who live in Spain are immigrants who just like to dress up the fact and call themselves ex pat's. It's such an inoffensive and flowery term and that's why I'm not surprised that so many people choose to use it.

Haven’t you got anything better to do with your time ?

Just a suggestion but maybe you should spend the time you obviously have on your hands, learning Spanish and integrating.

Me thinks this , expats is a nick name British people can use as a term for British people who have relocated to spain ,

Theres a lot off British people who are now Spanish citizens,  or who have citizenship,

That's how I see it, wrong or right,

All others are 3rd country immigrants

There are certainly some British people who now have Spanish citizenship, but not that many. It cannot be obtained until one has been legally resident here for a minimum of ten years and even then, the process takes a very long time, requires fluency in the language, a knowledge of history, customs and laws, and several official interviews etc. A couple whom we know achieved this last year, it took forever.

Its possible this is being conflated with legal residency which is a different position.

The Brits are great, especially the Scots, we invented a lot of stuff, imagine if we made the whole world speak only English, the benefits and savings would be enormous, and trash the house of lords, ban religion, get rid of lawyers and put law on computers, chop chop for for capital offences, no aid budget, strict immigration control, no one gets salary of more than 100k and much less for public employees, chip tag everyone so all movements monitored ergo no crime, vote for me and i will set you free....
