having jist returned and using car hire first time in Alicante i used Centauro brilliant service car was quite new and not overly costly £50 for 4 days short notice.

On the bad ones list - Goldcar - The big yellow sticker helps the local thieves to select tourists and the company is not to trust. Filthy cars, lost money from your credit car, added damage on car. Used Firefly recently - very happy with them. 

Yeah goldcrest charged us €33 bus we flew in late plus an administrator fee...steer clear of them...firefly are as good as anyone and competitive too

Hi Phil, We fly to Alicante about 6 times a year and have always used record go, but with insurance this often costs more than our flights/ don't t think they accept uk insurance??  Firefly sound good - are they at the Airport?  Who do you insure with in uk?  Sounds like what we need to do.

Yes firefly are ghe last one on the right hand side,it's a purple and black sign....we just Google car insurance in Spain an this uk Co came up...

By all means you can get a yearly insurance covering rental cars , but be careful because if you are charged for damage you need the invoice to able to claim back on your annual insurance which is very hard to obtain once you are back in the UK.

Has any one on the forum had any experience of claiming on these yearly policies?

I keep reading about these insurances that people are taking out for their car hire, I took one out last Christmas, (2015), but each time I came out to Spain, the rental companies refused to accept it and would not give me the car keys until I had taken out their insurance. The worst being Dickmanns, through DoYouSpain. Dickmanns took the money from my account, and it took about 3 months to get it refunded, even then I lost about 150 euros on exchange fees.  The help from DontyouSpain was non existent, so I always steer clear of both these companies.   

You just have to stand your ground and so a big "NO"..you have insurance..they will take a deposit off you for the car bcus you haven't had there insurance which u get bk a few days after its returned.dickmanns are one of the worst but in our experience firefly are one of the best through do you Spain. But generally car hire is always more than what you anticipate the price will be so be careful!!!

Out of interest due you pay the excess to Centauro or take out thier full insurance.just wondering if those who don't take out the full have no problems with hire companies.
