Suggest you book car hire from the UK. You'll get stung for late pick up. I have used both Goldcar and Centauro. Also, don't forget to buy your own separate car insurance.

Never had any problems with Goldcar and Centauro taking out my own separate car insurance. Always make sure you check the vehicle thoroughly inside and outside. Take photos of any damage and ensure car hire company records any damage before daperting with vehicle. Deposit is refunded in about 2 weeks once vehicle has been returned with no damage.

Yes always get full to full made the mistake and had to pay an additional €25 during my last visit to Spain. Will try booking direct with the car hire company next visit.

Further to my earlier post, I should point out that although I had to take out the insurance with Dickmanns, they also swiped my credit card. It was this money that took so long to retrieve. I was on the understanding that you took one or the other, but Dickmanns still refused to hand over keys until I had complied.

The insurance you take out in the UK is to protect your excess nothing to do with the car company if they take the money from your credit card that is all you pay the card is insured by the car company you are probably paying towards it in the hire charges.just walk away go else where.

I have used Centauro and Goldcar on two occasions and informed them I have my own excess insurance leaving deposit on both occasions. Upon return of the car it is checked over for any damages once confirmed all is ok. Deposit taken is refunded. Never had an issues with refunds. Only used these two car hire firms as recommended by others on this forum.

That's correct Mal so you only hired the car at the lower rate and they blocked your card for probably €1000 it is nothing to do with them you have insurance to protect your blocked.  Card .

Watch out for after hours charges, we got stung last week by Centauro after our flight was delayed, we were in the queue before the cut off of midnight but funnily enough there was only one person on the desk which meant we queued for over an hour and had to pay an extra €40. Add to that the €30 fuel administration charge which you are charged even if you return with the same fuel as when you collected!
