Hi

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. I know this has been asked before, however, I've not been able to find the feed.

We are hoping to be driving from Scotland-albatera at the start of February, we will be travelling with a small dog.(we are aware of getting him a passport). We have a friend in tavira, (Portugal) so, would have 1 stop over there. I'm looking for the best route (and if possible) a rough idea of the cost.

Thanks in advance

Without knowing whether you're looking to drive through France or take the direct ferry to Spain it's difficult to advise.

Take a look at the Michelin planner .... https://www.viamichelin.co.uk/

Once you've decided on which ferry route you'll be taking, the planniner will give you 3 options showing distance, time and cost. You can omit the tolls if you have more time and want to save cost. You can add the fuel consumption of your vehicle and the planner will work out the cost of the fuel & tolls (if required). Personlly, I would recommend using most of the tolls in France... Far more relaxing, shorter journey, less fuel.

BTW Tavira isn't exactly on the route to Albatera, It's about 750 km further on. So from Northern Spain (Bilbao/Santander), it's around 1100 km to Tavira, then a further 750 km to Albatera. (Northern Spain to Albatera is around 850 km)

Weatherwise and cheaper I'd recommend Santander-Bilbao-Vitora (toll)-Burgos-Madrid-Albacete-Aspe-Albatera route- plenty of food and lodge places. When surrounding Madrid disregard R-3 motorway and continue on M50 to junction 31 direction Valencia.
