Hi Pacoboy,

I´m afraid it suits the UK´s gutter press to use stories of Brits "having" to return to the UK as an excuse to criticise the EU and Spain.  Even if they thought to ask these people why they´ve had to return, I can´t see those that were illegal immigrants admitting to it.  My advice?...

...  Stop reading those media outlets - they certainly don´t care about UK citizens who were keen to move to the EU legally and who´ve had their dreams dashed.  As Angebadge has said, the deed is done - was done in 2016 - we have to get to grips with the new rules and live with them.

Kind regards,

Kim

That doesn't mean we can't try to change things, I've joined the European Movement with the short term aim of building a closer relationship with our neighbours and the long term aim of rejoining, I might not see the long term goal in my lifetime but my kids might benefit from freedom of movement in the future, a right every other European takes for granted.

I don't disagree, Paul, but that's a different matter.  My point is that I see no value in people complaining about what they've lost, when there's no reason for those who are legally resident in Spain to return to the UK - unless they are NOT legally resident.  In that case, they have only themselves to blame and the British gutter press should call it out, instead of only reporting half a story with which to beat the EU and Spain.

Sorry but I don’t agree the U.K. is allowing EU nationals to visit and stay for up to 180 days not 90 , a colleague who’s partner is Romanian came to the U.K. in 2017 she applied for pre settled status using a smartphone it took 5 minutes abs she received in 10 minutes later all she had to do...

... was send a copy of her passport

Nothing else. She did this when it first became available abs had to pay but shortly after it became free and she was refunded.
I know this is true because I was there when she did it

Very well said. I agree with you also..

"we all voted to leave" It was actually 36% of the electorate, it's been done to death but let's not pretend it was a landslide, over 16 million of us voted remain and 11 million didn't vote, as for settling down how do you thinks that will look? We're 3rd nation now, we've given up our freedom of movement.

Well I voted to stay even though I was still in England at the time.. I'm now back in England after 2 years of Living in Portugal. I bought a place in Torrevieja just before Lockdown but unfortunately I had to return here to England because my Mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness and has since passed away. I am currently stuck in England until my mother's house sells..

Hi Ade777,

I´m sorry to hear about your Mum.  I know it´s supposed to be the way of the generations, but it´s still hard.

When you´re ready to come to Spain, at least you´ll have had the full vaccination and, having lived in Portugal for two years, you´ll understand the stricter rules here.  I hope that you´re able to achieve this sooner rather than later and I hope the 90 days in a rolling 180 doesn´t impact your pre-Brexit lifestyle unduly.

Best wishes,

Kim

People with Brains knew that the British people were ill informed anda lot of the information they were given was half truths at best.

Hi Kim

Thank you for your heartfelt reply.

I was just wondering.. Once I eventually travel by ferry from England to Santander. How do the authorities police this '90 days' thing ? Because I usually live in Portugal but I also have a place In Torrevieja to renovate. What is to stop me driving across one border to another..?
