Hi everyone, so have came into a bit of bother, my husband canā€™t get an Irish passport now for family reasons, can anyone give us advice about an uk citizen married to an eu citizen and living in an eu country 22years trying to move to Spain? Is visa still needed or what since moving there with me(eu citizen)

Thanks again

Hi, getting spanish residency as a partner/spouse of an Eu citizen is really easy and the financial thresholds are a lot lower than those required of a non EU citizen. I have just done it last year , I have an Irish passport so got residency very easily for myself then my wife (Scottish) got residency (EU partnership TIE ,renewable after 5 years) on the back of my status . No visas required just a simple form , marriage/partnership  certificate (apostilled & translated) ,proof of financial stability (circa 15k euro) ,private health insurance plus padron evidence  for both. As someone said earlier though  it's so important to get a good Gestor who understands the system. Good luck and go live your dream, we are .

Basically it's about having the means to support your self (& partner/family) without relying on the state. Our spanish bank statements (last 3 months worth at the time of applying for residency) had to show a constant circa 15k balance for a couple, we did not intend to work in Spain so had to show the funds deposited in a Spanish account along with a pension income of at least 15k annually. Your solicitor will be able to advise how much additional you'd need to show so as to could support your kids as well. Although as I said they're much more lenient with EU citizens as opposed to non EU/UK citizens.

I recommend you go further south (Murcia region...) because in the regions to the north, the local language (Valenciano, Catalan...) is also spoken and taught at school. This is a big additional burden for the children if they also have to learn this language.

I also known in almeria they speak very lazy Spanish my daughter-in-law was brought up there and she has been asked to teach Spanish here in the UK but has refused as although classed a native Spanish speaker she says itā€™s not proper Spanish - people from other regions sometimes have trouble understanding the Almeria Spanish.  Hope that makes sense.
