You will get the "inter bank" exchange rate which is much higher than the high Street.

Wise also refund some fees each month if they exceed a certain target. I got €26 back last month. Exchange rates are v good and fees reasonable so that's just a bonus.

As I mentioned, I had to attend the chosen bank personally to open my account and to sign documents.
I personally don't know of any online application procedures for the major banks.

I understand that some banks charge up to €60 per quarter maintenance fee.

Can I say that the procedure for opening a Wize account could not be easier. To verify. You download an app and photograph your passport photograph page. Then photograph yourself holding the page in front of your face. Verification is completed within 10 minutes. EASY

We use the Wise card..its excellent..the exchange rate is always better than the exchange places..small fee to convert £'s to €'s but still worth using the Wise card..you can also set up direct debits on it...you can move money from your UK bank account onto the Wise card by using the Wise App

If you have a bit of money spare for investment then Wise pay just over 4% interest. Money invested can still be used as normal. Interest is paid daily.

As many people have said, Spanish banks are a nightmare. I’ve had a Wise account for many years and to date it’s been pretty good. Transfer’s are speedy and the exchange rates are good.
Recently they even introduced interest bearing options.
I hold Sterling, euro and AU dollars, had no issues to date, they even offer direct debits.
The only think I would take into consideration is there is no official financial protection, however customer’s money is held in a separate account.
Good luck….
