I can only imagine that if the vaccination lessens the effects of the plague on anyone infected, fewer of those infected will be hospitalised. This in turn will mean that there will be more capacity for those who are ill with other ailments.

It won't stop you getting it and it won't stop you infecting others.

Of the currently approved Covid vaccines, the highest efficacy rate is Pfizer-BioNTech at 91.3%.  None of the vaccines offer 100% protection against contracting the virus or passing it on to others, but very importantly they significantly reduce the danger of severe disease and the potential for dying from the virus.  At the moment, scientists are saying there is insufficient data to categorically say whether this new 'Omicron' variant is more dangerous than 'Delta'.  In the meantime, vaccinations combined with the proper use of face masks, hand washing/sanitizing, restricting numbers in enclosed spaces (and refreshing the air circulation in those places), is what we can all do to help protect ourselves and each other.

It is less likely that you will become seriously ill, be hospitised, or die if you are fully vaccinated.

Depends on a lot of things. Only needs one who hasn't had the jab. Someone not wearing a mask at the table etc etc. I am sure majority of brits have had the jab and it's brits who book the majority all the Xmas festivities group bookings etc. Its them who could lose their celebrations if 50% occu...

...pancy comes back as those bookings made a while back and the bars suffer again. There are grinches in Spain too !

Having the jab( vaccination) doesn’t stop you getting covid or passing it on! But it is designed to help you fight it off and to stop us taking up hospital places.

Hi Peacock,

If you think the Spanish don't celebrate Christmas, I assume you're not resident here?  Spanish families typically eat their main meal together on Christmas Eve, before going to Midnight Mass.  While Epiphany (the Three Kings festival) on 6 January is the main day for children to receive presents, many younger Spaniards with children prefer to exchange gifts on Christmas Day, because the youngsters still have a long break from school.

Kind regards,

Kim

I've been here for 15 years and yes they do a lot of family and church stuff around actual Xmas but they do not go out for Xmas meals and entertainment like we do and start beginning of Dec and book in Oct. There is no mention of churches. As for private residences as if the police are going to be checking those. I've never seen Spanish having Xmas meals in groups and we're out and about all the time.

They are also recommending for the family members to go to the pharmacy and purchase covid test kits to reduce tramsmissions during this festive period.
