Hello everyone!

Please, can I have some information..if anyone can help me..thanks in advance!

I m EU citizen, married with British in UK  last year!Moved in Benidorm, rent the apartment in January this year.Get the job with contract, get the residency myself, then applied for my husband TIE,still waiting(9 weeks today). All ok till now...let's say.My husband got his house, and his kids in Uk.He wants to keep his house in UK to go back, time s to times.

My husband has in the past 7 years big health issues with his liver, been in the hospital around 5 years...the liver has recovered very well, but because couldn't move has problem with the muscles aswell...lost part of his muscles...couldn't reach his arms very high, his driving licence been suspended. On top of all this he's got very bad rheumatism and arthritis.I

This is the reason that we moved in Spain actually..for a nice weather. Now I really don't know what we have to do regarding the GP,regarding the transfer to all his documentation about his illness here in Spain. His doctor from UK know s everything about his health problems. If we 'll transfer all this here in Spain I don't think so he going to get the same care...personally to be honest I m not very impressed about spanish health system. All about private insurance...very expensive, and don't cover this..don't cover that!

Please...can you help me guys to understand...what is best to do for my husband in the future?

Now he seems to be ok,he is 65... I m thinking in the future just in case the illness come back, can we keep our doctor in uk,and to back in there if is necessary?

Repeat..He got the house in there, kids are in there,we are going back in uk...a few time per year.

He can see his doctor aswell??🤔

I really don't have a clue!

Sorry for my mistakes,my English is not very well..but I wish all of you can understand what I was written here!

Many thanks!

I doubt you can keep a doctor in the UK if you are resident in Spain.

Health care in Spain is better than in the UK and if your husband is drawing a UK State pension he can get the S1 form from the UK that gives him free health care in Spain.

Private health care whether in the UK or Spain will not cover existing conditions so there really is no difference.

At age 65 he cannot be drawing a state pension therefore cannot entitled to an S1.

As he is no longer UK resident then he has no right to remain signed up to a GP practice. Having a house or family in UK, or how many times you go back, makes no difference at all to that plus in the first 5 years of living in Spain he is extremely restricted in the amount of time he can spend out of the country. Don't quote me but I think it's a maximum of 10 months across the entire 5 years or 6 months in any one year.

Copies of medical records can obtained from a GP but there will usually be a cost. How much notice a Spanish doctor might take of them is another question. Also requesting those records will give the game away that you are leaving (have left) the UK which should prompt the GP into removing him from their patient list as he is legally obliged to do.

Qualifying health insurance for residency is supposed to be FULL and without exclusions or co-payments so if what he's got falls short of that then not only has he got the wrong policy but also he's, quite possibly unwittingly, obtained his residency fraudulently.

If you are legally employed in Spain you should have medical cover as part of that and while I personally have no real knowledge of that side of things I would expect it to extend to a spouse and immediate family members, have you checked on that?

When your husband reaches his uk 🇬🇧 state pension age he can apply for a S1 health form and register it with the Spanish Health Service to receive free healthcare. At present is your husband receiving any disability/medical benefits as these may be exportable benefits which may entitle him to receive free healthcare in Spain 🇪🇸 if so he should contact the Overseas Healthcare Services department.

If l am correct, here are the contact details.

You tell us you are working and have a contract. That being the case you will be paying into the Spanish Social Security system which should extend to your dependants providing that you are married etc.

This extract is from Gov.uk website and I have included the link below:

'If you're working or self-employed in Spain, you're entitled to state healthcare on the same basis as a Spanish worker. Your dependants are also entitled (see 'If you're a dependant of someone living or working in Spain' below). Register at your local health centre with your social security number.'

It is free to request medical records from the NHS. They may come as hardcopy (which is what we got from my partners GP) or softcopy on an encripted Disc.
