Can anyone tell me if you are notified about major building work prior to it starting.  The noise levels around me are terrible and I din't know that they were building.  It's a villa that's been knocked down and rebuilt.

No requirement to notify anyone in advance of building works.

We have building all around us, shops - houses - whole estates, and nobody's ever told us it was going to happen. The town hall may have a listing of what's going on but there's been nothing in the papers or any residents informed. Just one day the cranes and dozers move in which is the first we hear about it.

We sometimes get a billboard erected advertising the new estate or whatever but only if they are big projects, certainly not individual houses.

Why should they, the noise levels would be the same anyway.  Would they tell you in Britain?

It would be helpful to plan things if we knew Kenneth.  And yes they would tell you in Britain.  Planning applications are completed through the council and then residents are asked if they approve or reject building works.  It is also put in the newspapers.

To the best of my knowledge, yes, it goes through Planning, but commencement of site works on individual properties is not notified to you unless the site manager or owner chooses to advise you in UK.
