Hi Darren

Did you travel before the 30th of March I think since that date spain are now letting in EU citizens without recidency which I believe an irish passport gives you?

Cheers

I travelled out on the 23rd so not since the March 30th changes.

I was still under the impression that its not anything to do with your nationality but the fact you have been in the UK, this is covid related restrictions as apposed to Brexit orientated, I might be mistaken. When you declare on your passenger locator form you have been in the UK in the last 10 days, you are then bound by the restrictions of people travelling from the UK, regardless of nationality.

Having a Spanish residency is proof that you are returning home from the UK which is the reason those people are allowed to travel.

Others might be able to clarify further

Cheers

Hi Eddie,

Just to make you aware as it stands property purchase is a valid reason to leave the UK, however its not a valid reason to enter Spain.

The port authority UK side will accept as its a valid reason for leaving the UK, Not to say the Spanish port authorities will accept when you land

If you are a Spanish Resident, you wont have any problems, otherwise i think you might struggle when you land.

I travel back and forth every couple of weeks for work reasons and i have seen so many people refused entry onto the flight and also held when landing in Spain. Turned back around on the next flight.

The only real reason outwith being a Spanish resident is for imperative family reasons, such as attending a funeral or visiting someone who is extremely unwell.

Wouldn't want you to travel and get stopped in Spain

All the best

Darren

Hi Darren,

I have had the same conversation with my Spanish Lawyer as I was concerned about getting in, I just have to trust her when she says I will be allowed in with her letter, and hope it does the trick.

I'm taking a risk and hoping she is right, last thing I want is getting the next boat back to the UK.

We will find out next week.

Thanks for the heads up anyway.

Cheers.

Eddie.

Maybe I have misunderstood the rules but I thought Boris was not allowing travel from the uk until 17th May otherwise a hefty fine will be administered. You have an Irish passport but still travelling from the uk. The concern would be the point of entry at Spain, having read the amount of people, that have been refused entry( even with viable reasons for their visit) It seems only residents with TIE numbers are allowed entry. But maybe I have my facts wrong. Good luck with your journey and hope you get to enjoy your new property very soon. Along with us that have second homes.

Just a quick one: Why do you need to physically be in Spain to complete the purchase?

Not criticising, just wondering.

Cheers.

Would you hand over hundreds of thousands of pounds on a new build property that you haven't seen finished can't just reply on pictures or videos.

Nope.

But that said, I wouldn't buy a new build, off plan in Spain anyway. Heard far too many horror stories.

Just hope the Spanish authorities are sympathetic to your argument when you land.

Good luck...

Wouldnt all those documents need signatures and also a need to be present at the notary offices ?

Hi Darren,

Only just got internet today so can now let you know how it all went.

At Portsmouth docks we had to show the standard government reason for travel forms and our passports, he asked if we had a PCR test but never checked, and read our letter saying we had official business with a Notary from our lawyer. That was it, we were then in the queue to board.

We got off the boat on Sat 9th and sat in a long queue to check our PCR certs we current, had no problems there.

Got to immigration and a nice policeman asked if we were resident before we got to the booth, told him we were not, but had to see a Notary and had a letter from out lawyer to prove it. He read the letter and waved us along to the immigration booth.

Gave the officer in the booth our passports, NIE certs and letter from our lawyer, he had a quick read, logged the passports and let us through.

Absolutely no hassle at all, and I'm very pleased it went how it did.

Now settled in Novelda, waiting for the rain to stop.

Cheers.

Eddie.

Hi Stan,

It's because my house in the UK sold, and this is now my new home.

Cheers.

Eddie.
