Spanish nationals can stay in the UK for 180 days out of 360, fact.  I do believe that eventually countries within the EU will be granted the facility of making their own decisions re adapting the 90/180 rule, special visas etc (for second home owners). Similar discussions as this have been ...

...on the forum since Brexit, it’s ironic really that those who seem to gloat, and dwell on others misfortune with smugness, and say serve you right, are the ones who were lucky enough to have residency prior to Brexit, and in all honesty, most could not afford to do it now, you were lucky. So why not drop the I’m all right Jack attitude and have some sympathy for those who didn’t have the pre Brexit opportunities.

This would be the same as we have now, it’s just putting the 2 90!days together, I want to be able to come & go with no time limits as second home owners we pay into the system which is a lot of money for the countries that they need,

Yes,  so why not a continuous 180 days then?  We have to have 90 Spain, 90 out of Shengen  back to Spain 90 !   Ridiculous.  Spanish people can stay in U.K. 180 Continuous

I think Hew meant to say that EU visitors to the UK can stay up to a maximum of 6 months per visit.

Incidentally there is no rule (that I can find) that says a visitor must not return after the 6 month visit within any specific  time frame.. It is therefore possible to stay for over 6 months in total the UK in any 12 month period, as long as no single visit exceeds 6 months.

Aitch.

The theory behind it is to make sure that there are people all year round spread out over the year instead of people just coming for summer months and leaving. 90 days means no matter what there will be people in winter time which means seasonal bars and restaurants have the option to stay open which in turn adds increases the economy

I don't think this theory is correct. I've never heard anyone putting that explanation forward before or seen it in writing. If you had a ski property in the Alps for example you would want to be there for the whole season if you had the time. Late December to April, which would be over the 90 days, but you may not want to use it again to the following season.

Rubbish.  lol.   Very many brits want to be able to be in Spain for the Winter, Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb and March.  !  So, youve got all the summer visitors anyway , and steady snowbirds too.   It’s very difficult to plan a stay splitting it into two of 90.

The theory does work and it's what's I was told or read I can't remember but it does make sense. There's always going to be someway in which something is an inconvenience for doesn't make sense to someone but usually it's simple reasons things happen. Most people visit bars, cafes and restaurants and a seasonal resort in Spain benefits massively From it.

Do you ever feel like you are going round in circles. ?   I do not think that anyone who isn’t affected by 90 day rules will ever get it.
