Hello as I understand it the uk are still only asking for a lateral flow test. The results from these are in 30 mins, that being the case it's better to take the test before you set off to Bilbao since a positive test will prevent you travelling anyway. 72 hours is enough time to travel to Bilbao safely without rushing and compromising your safety. The LFT is available at lots of pharmacies. Keep an eye on the uk.gov site for updates in case there is a review of testing requirement. Stay safe, stay well. Carole

Hello Carole,
Do you know how much the pharmacies charge for the LFT?
With advance thanks and bed

HiCarole
The UK are not just asking for the LFT, that is one of the options - a PCR test is another. If I was yourself i'd be looking at the PCR option at this stage in your planning, as i'm thinking this may well be the preferred one that the UK Govt push for in a month or so's time...?
Attached is a link from the Govt.UK website showing the current requirements - though, as we all know, this very often changes at very short notice!

When I was enquiring last week it was around €35 to €40 who knows though if market forces kick in because of restrictions everywhere we might see an. increase. The hotel quarantine is more of an issue now for us because of our dog🤔

Hi Steve
My information is gained from the uk.gov site. I am never away from it. I answered the question of another member.
My main issue would be the safety of rushed travel from where we are to the eurotunnel in the 72 hour timeframe after a pcr test. The time it might take to get the result will deduct from the 72 hours and significantly reduce the travel window.
I would not wish to take the risk of a pcr test further along the journey to calais since the result waiting time will again impact. We are travelling by car with a dog and should it return positive we would be stuck there.
More importantly now we have the issue of hotel quarantine.
Stay safe everyone.

Hi Carole
In your earlier post you stated that “Hello as I understand it the uk are still only asking for a lateral flow test”. and as such I was simply letting you and other forum members know that the LFT is not the only test available - the link I posted was the latest publication from the Gov.uk, and within it it mentions the different types of test that are available in addition to the LFT.
I appreciate that in your circumstances having the LFT test close to your point of departure would be your best option, as waiting for up to 36 hours for the PCR could end up with you either being delayed, or getting a positive result when you are at Calais and having to turn back and go into self-isolation.
The PCR results are e-mailed across, so you can receive them at any time on your journey

Dear Carole,
Thank you very much for your prompt response.
In my previous message I meant to say With advance thanks and best wishes ('bed' was an error, my apologies).
Wishing you best of luck with your journey.
