Hi,

I'm surprised that you are getting bitten this time of year. They were pretty bad this year but usually they don't appear to be around much during the Winter.

I found that it was mainly around early dusk that the mossies became a nuisance and just covered up and sprayed repellent on exposed areas of the body if I went out at that time. There's a spray called Halley that we found to be good this year when all the other repellents didn't appear to be deterring the little blighters!. It can be bought in the Spanish pharmacies.

They always say not to have any stagnant water around as they use that to breed in but other than staying inside when the mossies are swarming, there isn't much more you can do. Just hope that they die off soon for the Winter.

If you're sitting out early evening make sure you have citronella candles burning on your tables. We used wrist bands - impregnated to repell mozzies - bought packs of 2 in Leroy Merlin. Just check the section in your supermarket for ant- mozzie products. Plug in repellants are also quite good. Best of luck.

There MUST be a stagnant water source nearby to get pestered this time of year, even water in a plant container dish.... You don't need a pond, just a teaspoon for the little b*****s, there have been outbreaks of malaria in Rome traced to water in devotional flower containers in graveyards....

you need to conduct a forensic level survey of your property, because to have insects this time of year they must be successfully breeding and hatching- you need to find out where. Don't forget, they can also hatch offspring in your household plumbing, make sure you chuck bleach down EVERY plug hole , especially where there is an u- bend. To have mossies this time of year unfortunately ( or fortunately) means the source is your immediate environment. Go Rambo...

good luck

I agree with the above reply - It's just what I thought.

In our area of Spain , some of our neighbours even remove their mosquito netting this time of year as they say it's not needed.
